@darklingswhore: Thank you for tagging me! This was really fun. Describe yourself in four fictional characters, from movies, books, or TV. Create your own post, don’t reblog.

1. Spock (Star Trek)

Spock’s struggle between his valued logical side and his shameful emotional side is something I connect with so strongly. I’ve felt defined by that struggle for much of my life, as well as how others perceive me because I process things differently or have differing philosophies or outlooks on life. Everything about this man makes sense to me. How he sees things, how he acts, his values, his fears, his loves.

2. Jane Eyre (Jane Eyre)

I too am a plain woman(person) who is sensible, intelligent, and hardworking, yet artistic and bursting with passion. I love love, yet I would always place my personal values above it if I needed to. Like Jane, I want my romantic partner to be someone with whom I share our own personal language, our own sphere of understanding and connection that no one else can fully comprehend or intrude upon.

3. Keladry of Mindelan (Protector of the Small quartet)

A girl who is “boyish” but still a girl, and comfortable in her own skin. Calm and levelheaded, tough but compassionate. Confirmed retroactively by the author to be asexual (and aromantic, I believe, though I don’t have this in common with her). Her goals in life are driven by her own personality, her own desires, not her gender–but when her gender is seen as a limiting factor, she stands up against that notion and proves it wrong.

4. Ben Wyatt (Parks and Recreation)

Though my career is different than his, I relate to the way his down-to-earth pragmatism is at first misinterpreted and causes others to assume he is mean, which he is not. His blend of geeky fandom passion, kindness, and generosity, along with his very logical science-y thinking, connects with me strongly. Also like Ben, while I have my own career aspirations and life goals, I’m happy to stand to the side and play more of a supportive role to my partner, whom I love and adore.

I’m tagging… @hannigramislifeand@supercutenerdthings

This was great fun! I’d love to see others’ responses ^^

Hmmm I truly wonder…

1. Will Graham (Hannibal)

The constant internal conflict between what he truly is and what he knows he should be, in order to fit within the acceptable societal norms, yet striggling and slipping because he’s not honest with himself is sthg I relate to deeply. Always on the edge, always waiting and fearing that final push.

2. Sansa Stark (Game of Thrones)

The “little bird” who went through so much, who grew up into a beautiful and strong woman, into a leader worthy of her crown- Sansa Stark is one of the most relatable characters for me. I too would have been afraid, I too would have cried and waited, and I too would have endured. Bless her.

3. Erza Scarlet (Fairy Tail)

The Queen of Fairies, Titania. I do not kid myself enough to believe I am anywhere near her level, and it’s hard to be. The strong and intelligent S-Class Wizard of Fairy Tail is an inspiration, not only in her hard-working and determined nature, but also her earnest and loving heart. When faced with difficulties, she doesn’t even falter. When the world tells her to move, she is rooted to the ground, shoulders squared up, calmly saying “no you move.” When Erza Scarlet stares into the abyss, the abyss lights up in command. I like to believe we share the same attitude, the same sense of privacy, and tender loving heart.

4. Eddie Diaz (911)

Eddie is me. I am Eddie. Eddie and I are the same person. Soft spoken, but with anger issues, Eddie Diaz is so important to me as a character. Because I can relate culturally with him, I understand and sympathize with him. He is a family guy who puts too much pressure on himself, always putting his loved ones first, and repressing all his needs and desires. He is strong, and resilient, and a little broken; but God, is he so good.

Bonus: I too would fall in love with this goofball, so I get you, Eddie

It’s funny how the idiot branch of the fandom goes on and on about GRRM inverting tropes and making heroes into villains and how morally dark characters are interesting than plain old heroes and how this is what GRRM is doing with Dany and Jon and all that…

But this discussion never, ever touches Sansa. Why? In the books,  Sansa is currently in the Vale participating in the slow poisoning of her little cousin. Why is no one writing metas about dark!Sansa and how GRRM was writing an interesting morally complex dark Sansa who slowly becomes more villainous under LF’s influence? That would also be inverting tropes right?

On the show,  they clearly play with Sansa’s divided loyalties between herself and her family. For two seasons we have had to sit through Sansa lying to Jon, keeping important information from him and nearly getting him killed, undermining him, fighting with Arya over power, nearly having Arya executed under LF’s manipulation - this is ALL show canon. This all actually happened on the show. But mentioning any of this brings out the hordes of rabid Sansa stans screaming about Sansa haters. So even thought the show plays with a morally grey Sansa who wants to be Queen rather than Jon and passive-aggressively tries to get it from him, her fans see her as this kind, compassionate, selfless beacon in the North. No flaws, no mistakes. She is wise, intelligent, super smart, best queen the world has ever seen. And such a character is perfectly ok in ASoIaF.

But Jon, Dany and Arya? They all have to be bad and do bad things and be morally dark and invert tropes to be interesting.

So Dany has to go mad and do evil shit and die miserably.

Jon has to become LF and sexually manipulate her.

Arya has to slit the throat of the mother of dragons and have more blood on her hands.

And Sansa? Notice how she does not get her hands dirty in any of these theories. The most benevolent saint Sansa only has to kindly marry Jon and bestow her pure, best Stark name onto him and banish the evil Targaryen name away. That’s all. And she will then become queen and get her brave, gentle husband she wanted at the start of book one, season one.  And she will still be the best, most interesting, relatable, complex character ever written in the history of ASoIaF.

But Jon, Dany and Arya? No. They are all boring as good guys. They have to do evil shit to be interesting and GRRM is going to invert all the tropes with them.

Their absolute hypocrisy is what is maddening about all this. Their acute focus on making the Dany the bad guy because GRRM is inverting tropes or some such nonsense. But Sansa is for some reason exempt from this trope inverting business - even though both her book and show plots constantly write her as a character with shaky loyalties to her family.
