Thinking about the fact that all of the couples who either had “I am hers she is mine” playing for them or sampled in one of their songs had a tragic ending DONT text
Yesssss
Here’s the thing about Ep. 05, I’m actually all on board for Daenerys becoming the Mad Queen, I think both George R.R. Martin and the show runners did a good job laying the groundwork for that to happen. HOWEVER, that being said I have a huge problem with Daenerys burning innocent civilians AFTER they have surrendered. I can see her flying off to the Red Keep and burning that to the ground and inadvertently killing the civilians sheltered within the castle walls, I can see her burning all the Lannister soldiers after they’ve surrendered but her just being like “fuck it” and destroying the city and people she wanted to rule makes no sense. And I understand “madness” doesn’t make sense but let’s use her father, King Aerys, for an example; the main reason he wanted to “burn them all” was because he was LOSING and he didn’t want those who betrayed him to get to rule over anything, “let them be king of the ashes” (there’s also the part where he thought it would turn him into a dragon allowing him to ultimately win the war-which is where the insanity comes in but again is rooted in a rational concept of dragon/targaryen lore). Daenerys at this point had decisively won the battle, the citizens had never posed a threat to her directly, they were just under Cersei’s oppressive rule and fearful of something unknown and potentially worse. She has stated numerous times throughout the books and the show she will destroy her enemies and take what is hers through fire and blood but she had already done those things. So what was her motivation for destroying a city that was already hers? Why kill her own subjects at random when up until this point (in this very episode) she saw that “mercy is our strength”. To have her devolve so quickly and just murder innocent people at random seemingly because winning wasn’t enough, that more people had to suffer for her to feel justified in her own losses? That makes absolutely no sense and flies in the face of everything they had built her character to be.
waiting for season 8 be like
Ok, so I’ll say this
I have always tried to stay away from the bandwagons of all sorts whether it was about hating something or loving something; and also I’ve always tried not to be harsh on any creators, cus you know, creating stuff is hard. At least they tried. And with the Game of Thrones, I was willing to give the writers a chance even after the mediocre seventh season - damn I loved this story, this world, these characters and I wanted to love them still so, so much.
But now I can’t. I actually can’t. I can’t think of any excuse for this joke of an ending, and frankly not that I want to anymore. And not because it’s popular to hate on Game of Thrones these days.
It’s just bad. Bad, unsatisfying and it leaves this bitter taste in your mouth that spoils all the future rewatches for you. It was a living and breathing world once but now it’s just some bad fan fiction exploring the question no one asked: “what would happen if all of the characters had meningitis complications”. Characters are killed off just to raise the body count, years of careful character development are traded for some shock value, some plot lines just go nowhere… yup, it’s really bad.
Bad, confusing and so, so disappointing.
Sotty for my bad english, I’m just so sad right now
PS And also they should have called this show “The Starks” since they are obviously the only ones that matter in the end. Maybe “The Starks and Tyrion”, idk
