sunday wip snip
I was tagged for a wip snip by several people over the last several weeks (months *ehem* I’m so sorry y'all) but most recently by @onbeinganangel whose snippet can be found here. I had to drop from Wireless this year, which still hurts a bit, but means I no longer have to keep this a secret! Here’s a teensy preview of my beloved con artist!Harry, who will hopefully see the light of AO3 someday.
A couple of hours ago, Harry painted his fingernails black. Well, his fingernails, but then again, not really his fingernails. Really, they’re someone else’s. Borrowed. But he’d liked the way the shiny black looked against the pale, veiny skin of those unfamiliar hands. Even as the vile taste of Polyjuice had still clung to the back of his tongue, he’d imagined the glimmer of the polish flickering between the shuffle of worn cards. A thrill had fluttered through his chest as he’d smoothed the first strip of paint over his temporary thumbnail.
And oh, what a lovely thing it is now, to find the excitement wasn’t overkill. They’re distractingly attractive, these hands and their pitch-black nails, as they deftly rearrange his cards and tap impatiently against the velvety surface of the table. What a find that stray hair was. A gamble, for sure, not knowing whose it was, but the reward of a night like tonight is well worth the risk.
