Made these partially in light of the issues the USPS has been facing lately, and also as a personal project. There are only so many ways you can make the US flag look interesting, and let’s be honest, photos of vegetables and fruit aren’t the most exciting either. So I decided what if the USPS did a classic American dessert themed one? It was honestly really fun to do research on these. I know apple pie isn’t technically American in origin, but it’s so ubiquitous that I couldn’t leave it out.

Currently here in the US, the postal service aka USPS is experiencing a lot of difficulty. They lack a lot of funds and individuals very high up in our government believe that the USPS should raise their prices (and put hundreds of thousands of small businesses at risk for closing down) instead of giving them the funds they need and deserve. The Postmaster General (the individual in charge of running the USPS) is also politically motivated and is slowing mail delivery times in order for politicians he likes to get a leg up in the next election. This is unacceptable.
Due to all these factors, shipping times are significantly delayed. I do my best to hand off orders to the post office quickly but once they have it the timing is out of my hands. I’m so, so sorry about this, and I wish things were different. If any other shops are experiencing the same thing, they’re welcome to reblog this post to let their customers know what’s going on. Please be patient with small businesses like this one - slow shipping is NOT our fault! ❤️
The USPS is about to declare bankruptcy. It’s at the center of the longstanding plans for disaster recover and has been since the Cold War. It’s the only institution that could (for example) deliver covid meds to every home in America in one day.
The proximate cause of the post office’s bankruptcy is the pandemic, but that is merely the finishing blow. The USPS was murdered in 2006, when Congress passed the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act.
The Act gave the USPS a mere 10 years to “prefund its future health care benefit payments to retirees for the next 75 years.” That is, to set aside cash to pay medical bills for future employees who hadn’t been born yet.

The USPS’s murder is straight out of the neoliberal playbook: “1 Defund, 2 claim crisis, 3 call for privatizatization, 4 profit!”

The proposals are for USPS to become a Wework clone or franchisee, but not to become a publicly owned bank - a common line of business for other nations’ postal services, natural based on the amounts of cash they handle.
The USPS is the nation’s second largest employer of veterans, with 630,000 employees. Trump is about to allow it to collapse so that UPS, Fedex and other private firms can skim off the most profitable parts of its business and leave rural Americans totally isolated.
The loss of the USPS would mean the loss of the last truly universal federal program in America and would unduly hammer the people whom Trump claims to love – veterans and rural voters.
I read a diary at Daily Kos which suggested that if half the households in America bought 2 sheets of Forever Stamps, for about 16 bucks, it would provide enough funding to keep the USPS alive.
How fucked up is this? We’re trying to save the fucking Postal Service, which is in the fucking CONSTITUTION, from Republican sabatoge.

i did it yesterday and it couldn’t have been easier. my senators are both pieces of shit, but that doesn’t mean i’m not going to give them an earful about this.

If you’re in the United States, please please please voice your support of the USPS. It’s an integral part of our democracy and it continues to be under attack. I know there’s a lot to worry about right now, and I don’t mean to add to the list, but this matters, folks, I promise.
The POST OFFICE is one of the best things about America! It’s consistent, efficient and affordable. It’s something we all have equal access to.

For that trust, for that belief, for the beauty of faith, for the sanctity of Mail- I would deliver her letter, if I had to wrest forth from the primordial chaos the platonic form of Christmas spirit such that a Santa might exist to deliver it to.
