“Mr. President, you have a visitor,” Aaron’s assistant, Lauren, announces you as she swings open the door to the Oval Office. It’s almost cute, the way Aaron’s lip curls up into a scowl before he lifts his eyes from his briefing memo and realizes that it’s you. He drops his face into a schooled neutrality that you recognize as a calculated concealment of his relief and elation.
“Thank you, Lauren,” he says politely. “You can close the door on your way out.”
“Actually, Lauren,” you interrupt her exit, “Could you leave it open, please?”

She’s suffering on your cross to bear. And while you knew that she didn’t do it, the rest of the world needed some convincing.

“This can’t all be about Amanda Tanner, can it?” JJ asks. “I mean, that whole thing was done and over with.” “It’s probably not about her, but the Amanda Tanner incident points to a pattern of sleazy behavior,’ Emily asserts, her eyes flicking up to you for only half of a second— so quick that you wonder if you’re making it up.

Your heart drops into your stomach when you play Haley’s voicemail. Quite frankly, you never expected to hear from her again, least of all now. What could she possibly want? Aaron would tell you not to call her back, you knew that much. But Aaron wasn’t the one who left you this voicemail. They were separate people, Aaron and Haley. Your relationship with him didn’t mean he had any authority over how and when and why you talked to her. Not to mention, if she really did want to speak to you, you probably owed her the phone call– and much more than that, truth be told. You push past your own trepidation and call her back.
“Thank god you called,” Haley says in a sigh of relief as the line connects.
“Is everything okay?” You ask, her urgency causing your anxiety to spike.
“There’s some information I think you should have,” she tells you, and it’s not really an answer to your question.

“The President considers these allegations to be a private matter between himself and the First Lady. He is grateful for the continued support and respect of his privacy by the American people,” Rossi’s voice drones through your television, which you flick off. Haley had told the world about Aaron’s affair, but hadn’t named you. You were grateful in some regards, but in others, it meant that you were still a target.
“You should really get back to work,” you tell Aaron, who has taken his time getting out of bed and ready this morning. He emerges from your bathroom, tying his tie as he crosses the room to sit by your feet on the edge of the bed.
“I’ll get there,” he says with a sated smile, which you return drowsily.

I do feel for Haley here. She is right to be hurt and angry, but going to the press could be something that will hurt more than just Aaron.
It kind of seems like no one is really considering the impact their actions might have on Jack, whether short or long term (I forget how old he’s supposed to be here).
