the day couldn’t get any worse for semi. wanting to just go out alone for lunch seemed impossible. ever since his newest album dropped and word got out he was in town, fans were swarming to find him. never catching a break, he found himself in a park, almost two miles from the café he wanted to go to.

you sat quietly whilst the cold breeze brushed against your cheeks. it was seemingly quiet today at the park, nothing too exciting and nothing too dull. you fiddled with your fingers as time passed waiting for your friend. a crowd looking for something across the pond wanders, you tilt your head at the sight, curious of what they were searching for.

at that moment, a tall figure sits beside you. “they’re a bunch of fans,” the figure says. his voice was sweet, yet raspy as if he were screaming all night. “they look like a bunch of ants looking for food.”

“who are they looking for?” you ask, looking over at the voice. he had his hood on, bundled up in layers with a mask covering his features. his grey hair was ruffled with what seems like leftover hair product. “or what for that matter?”

“semi, that new artist that came out,” he sighs. “seems like every new star can’t catch a break in public.”

“i suppose so,” you turn to look back at the crowd. some young, some that seemed well over the age of the fangirl stage. “some people are crazy obsessed. I’ve never heard of this…semi…guy, person…do you like his music?”

“i…” he turns to face you. he admired your features, noticing how engrossed you were looking at the group. “think he’s overrated.”

you chuckle at his statement before checking your phone. after seeing a text, you sigh at the sight. “my friend canceled on me,” you mutter. “so tell me, if this semi artist is overrated, what should i listen to?”

“just because he’s overrated doesn’t mean his music is that bad. his fans making him such a- what’s the word-” he stumbles. he looks away, fumbling with his thumbs.

“godlike?” you raise an eyebrow.

“yes, that…” he sounded ashamed to even think about that. it was true, semi loved his fans but he hated how they made him seem like the only and most important artist out there. his music was one of his passions and for it to become what it is now? he was just disappointed in how he could’ve handled things.

“well, i was supposed to go out to lunch with my friend to this ramen shop but they canceled on me,” you say. “why don’t you come to lunch with me?”

“a-are you sure?” he was confused that you could trust him so easily. “we just met. i don’t wanna impose on your day plans.”

“why not? the spot is a family spot, they’re a small ramen restaurant,” you explain. you stood up from the bench, turning to face him. “c'mon, it’s better than hiding out here where your fans can find you, semi.”

“you’re right-” semi stood up shocked. “wait, you said you didn’t know who i was.”

“i don’t, i know there’s some artist who’s on the come up has a group of fans looking for him,” you explain. “context clues, the mask, watching the group, the nervousness of your voice.”

“huh…you’re something else,” semi chuckles.

“now then, why don’t you teach me who semi is. the person behind the artist,” you hold out your hand from your pocket, offering it to him. he smiles behind his mask, taking your hand interlaced with his.

“thank you.” his heart fluttered, this was the beginning of something great.
