A few pictures capturing how a scorpion eats. A lot of people don’t realize they have two ‘arms’ that come out of their face and are essentially equipped with smaller pinchers to rip into their prey and drag it into their mouth. In these pictures you can see those two arms (also known as chelicerae) working in conjunction with their pinchers (also known as chela) to eat. Their chela end in two fingers, a moveable finger and a fixed finger. The fixed finger is the one on top, part of their chela. The moveable finger is below, and can open or close via the joint.
The scorpion showed is a male Pandinus imperator, also known as the Emperor scorpion.
Look at this shiny boy! You know, a lot of people mention Pandinus scorpions (P. imperator/P. dictator) having a blue hue to their exoskeleton and in the proper light you really can see it. Compare the top photo with the bottom photo and I think you too can see the subtle navy-blue tint to his body in the first picture.
