From the age of 12, Mama Casset learned photography with the French Oscar Lataque in Dakar then at the end of primary school he worked for Tennequin’s AOF Photographic Counter. It was in the  French Air Force where he honed his talent by  producing aerial photographs.
 
 Mama Casset opened his private studio “African Photo” in the Medina in Dakar  At the end of the Second World War,
 
Mama Casset was not content  photographing bourgeoisie of Dakar, instead he produced a work which he  describes as artistic. his muse and main model was his  second wife. 

Looking at a Mama Casset picture  is to feel- the tchouraïs -, the back laughter or sadness, fortitude or weakness, sensuality. Mama Casset hunted for rare set pieces populated  with  staged very structured characters frequently  shot in a  diagonal tight frame , highlighting the expression of body position hands, eyes, place given to the costume, .
