Uncomfortable Dragon

(Story Post)

“Sissy!”
“Ugh… Seranan.”
Sydryn was not ready to have their sibling bust open the doors of their bedroom that morning, very much unannounced and certainly unwelcome. Köbi hadn’t even come in yet with the pink dragon’s morning rose tea which meant it was particularly early.
Sydryn sat up in bed and rubbed their eyes wearily. “What couldpossiblywarrant this intrusion?”
Seranan stood in the doorway frowning and clutching their robe to their chest. “I need help with something…”
“Can’t it wait another…two to ten hours?” Sydryn groaned.
“Sissy, please…” Seranan begged, walking over and sitting down on the side of the bed, making their sibling scowl and recoil to the opposite end of the Alaska King.
“This imposition will not be forgotten…” Sydryn growled. “State your business.”

“I woke up early because I felt sick like usual, so I used the loo, but when I tried to go back to bed, I noticed the bed was wet, but not down in the nether regions, but right where I lay my torso,” Seranan explained. “A small ache drew me to my chest and to my horror, I noticed I'm…well, I don’t know what to call this. It’s like I’ve sprung a leak!”
Sydryn blinked and stared at their sibling. “…Show me.”
Seranan shrugged off the shoulders of their robe and gathered the excess over their abdomen, exposing their chest. Each side was swollen and puffy, and little veins even webbed around darkened nipples.
“Look, see this?” Seranan took their right nipple between index and middle, pressing lightly. Droplets formed, running down their fingers and the underside of the swelling.
Sydryn scrunched their face. “Clearly you’re lactating.”
Seranan was taken aback. “Lactating? Like…Like some kind of bovine?”
“More like a human,” Sydryn stated. They sat back further and straightened up. “Very peculiar though…”
“So what’s wrong with me? Why am I doing this?” Seranan asked. “This is the second time this has ever happened. Am I broken?”
“Was the first time during your first pregnancy?”
“Yes. I couldn’t come to you then about it because we were all in hiding, you know. But how’d you figure?”
Sydryn shook their head in disappointment. “Lactation is a response to pregnancy and childbirth. Have you everlearnedanybiology?”
“Why would I need that? You’re the doctor,” Seranan huffed. “Are dragons supposed to do this?”
“I honestly don’t know,” Sydryn stated. “The only dragon biology I’ve ever really been able to study thoroughly is my own and I certainly have never lactated… We’re not exactly mammals, you know. Although I’ve never had the chance to dissect a dragon… But we do have nipples, so I suppose it’s not out of the question that we could lactate… If I could take you to my workplace, I could study this further. But you’re not to go anywhere, so we must take this at face value.”
“So, what am I supposed to do? Just sit here, leaking like some sort of breeding stock?” Seranan lamented.
“Of course not,” Sydryn said. “You can sit in your room, leaking like some sort of breeding stock.”
Seranan pouted. “Sissy, you’re not going to help me?”
Sydryn sighed. “You can pump.”
“Pump?” Seranan asked.
“Yes. Humans have those little machines that extract excess milk gathered in the mammary glands of the chest,” Sydryn stated. “It should help with tightness and tenderness.”
Seranan stared, completely appalled. “You want to milk me like a cow?!” Seranan scoffed. “Absurd!”
“I don’t want to do anything to you at all. You can do it yourself. It relieves the pressure.”
“But can’t you stop it?” Seranan asked. “Can’t you dry it up? Or suture it shut or something?”
“That’d only make things much worse,” Sydryn said. “No, the milk is produced for your offspring to drink. Since you have not laid your eggs yet, you have no purpose for this production and the only thing you can do is empty your milk regularly to keep the pressure down.”
Seranan covered their face. “This is a nightmare! Why would my own body betray me like this? It’s not like I’m ever going to use it… The fairies feed the babies and do all that!”
“I can understand your frustration, but can you go be frustrated somewhere else?” Sydryn said. “I’ve given you my advice and it will stop eventually.”
Seranan just sobbed and laid down beside their sibling, reaching out for them. “Can’t you even attempt to console me?”
Sydryn scowled. “What? What do you think this is?”
“I don’t understand what happened to you, Sissy,” Seranan said. “I’ve shown you nothing but my affection, and you push me away…”
“Nothing but affection?” Sydryn shook their head. “You’re kidding, right? You’ve been nothing but a nuisance!”
“Come on. When we were small, you used to hold me when I cried,” Seranan said, getting a grip on Syd’s arm. “Won’t you hold me now?”
“We were infants,” Sydryn stated, pulling back their arm. “What’s changed is you’re a complete pain in my side now.”
Seranan relinquished their arm. “…That’s all you think of me? After all these years?”
“Seranan,” Sydryn stated. “You’re living in my house to escape your crimes, eating my food, snooping through my possessions, insulting my hoard, and barging in on me during my sleep looking for medical advice you can literally look up on any device connected to the internet, and you think I want to cuddle you and tell you everything’s going to be alright?”
Seranan just went silent, staring at Sydryn solemnly.
The pink dragon groaned and adjusted their own pyjamas before lying down again, facing away from Seranan. They let out a drawn out sigh. “…We’re too pregnant to snuggle up anyway.”
The red dragon studied their sibling for a moment. Then they turned over and scooched up against Sydryn. Back to back, they could feel the long deep breathing of their sibling and it provided some comfort.
Sydryn sighed. “I get up in fifteen minutes.”
“That’s fine.”
“I expect you to lay there quietly and not disturb me.”
Seranan was silent, pleased enough to get this much closeness.
Sydryn let their eyes shut again, a bit irritated thinking of how pleased Köbi would be when he later brought in their tea. It couldn’t be helped.
“Seranan…” they added.
“Yes?”
“You’re not eating properly… Other than the obvious, you’re thinner than when you arrived.”
“So?”
“So, for a dragon doing nothing but eating and sleeping, you should be gaining a lot of weight.”
Seranan just shrugged.
Sydryn sighed. “…I can understand if you’re not doing well with a menu that caters strictly to my aesthetic. I’ll ask Köbi to add some other things to the grocery list.”
“You mean, no more pink food?”
“Not for you. No.”
“…Thank you.”
“Ten minutes.”
