#shadow chase

LIVE

This will be a bit longer because of pictures so just see below for more!

I’ve been using the same notebook for planning since 2012. Bought it in the Arizone Mills in Phoenix. <3

When I first started my storyboards of chapter one were smaller than my hand and had no text. oops. below you can see what they look like now.

my favorite storyboard was actually drawn by my brother. We were on vacation in Florida and he wanted to *help*. I told him “draw a shocked boy on the phone”

speaking of which, I’ve drawn Shadow Chase in several countries throughout the years including USA, Brazil, Japan, Spain, Portugal, Germany and Czech.

However, it has only been published in English. :D

The story was inspired by Peter Pan and my style was greatly influenced by Gosho Aoyama (duh) and my friend s-capee who was publishing her own fancomic at the time. you can also find her own DeviantArt!

This wasn’t my first doujinshi. My very first one was a short story called KID and how Kaito dealt with his father’s death. Afterwards I made a fancomic of the fantastic fanfiction “Mayonaka” by @manchasama . However, there was no continuation and thus I decided to work on my own story where I’d create the story myself.

Shadow Chase is drawn traditionally on paper with black pigment liners. First I used the really thin ones, overused the so they weren’t as fine anymore and then got new ones. Nowadays all the lines just got thicker all together so it doesn’t matter.

The paper for the comic was bought on La isla de La Palma, a Spanish Canary island. We bought them in a small shop in Los Llanos and had a 5km walk home. One time we bought 50 sets of this paper and the shop owner felt so bad for us when we told him we would walk that he drove us home. :’)

Initially the story was supposed to be even longer. However, I realized I’d be working on this til my death if I kept the original length so I cut some parts shorter. Otherwise we’d only have covered 15% of the story by now.

When I first had the idea I wasn’t sure if I’d do a setting in a magical word where a shadow running away was something not too strange OR a super serious dark setting in the real world. Eventually I found something in the middle.

I integrate lots of real life experiences and places into the doujin. Going out and doing things inspires a lot so I’d recommend it to anyone who wants to be creative. For example the sushi restaurant in the earlier chapter is actually in Shibuya and one of my favorites. Celebrated my 20th birthday there. :) The urban district in “unfamiliar territory” was set in Sangejaya, a place I used to walk to a lot.

I once had to send files to my old boss and didn’t know the work scanner would just accumulate ALL FILES I had ever scanned there into one single pdf. Later that day I got a mail from my boss, thanking me for the requested files and telling me how nice my art looked. thanks.
speaking of which, despite drawing this for 10 years now my mom saw me drawing pages a few months ago and still went “Did you draw this?” . Any artist knows this question but hearing it from someone who has seen you drawing all your life? thanks.

my favorite chapter cover of all the ones I’ve done so far is from “unfamiliar territory” just because I really like the setting and the boys just talking. another reason the doujinshi kept going for so long was probably that I just could draw the boys over and over and over again and still didn’t get tired of them. :)

I just noticed that my own folders of the chapters aren’t even complete so it’s more than 500 pages that have been uploaded so far. oops.

I’ve never drawn a page twice but forgot to draw one page once. I once THOUGHT that I had drawn a page twice though. I never had to redraw a page, however, last year some pages were spilled over with coke but survived. If I was given the whole day without any breaks I could probably finish 6 pages in a day. Each page has the dimensions of 14,8cm x 21cm in reality.

I haven’t talked much about Shadow - but can’t spoil you too much, ey? He’ll appear a lot more in the next arc, look forward to it! Next arc will also include an undercover-dress-up.

I’m not sure what else to talk about or mention, this is all I could come up for now! if you have any other questions for me or the characters just hit me up. hope this was interesting or fun to some of you!

again, thank you for 10 years of support and I hope you’ll enjoy the future chapters as well! <3

thank you for 10 years of Shadow Chase! You guys are amazing, I appreciate every reader, every comm

thank you for 10 years of Shadow Chase! You guys are amazing, I appreciate every reader, every comment and every kind of support I was given throughout the way! let’s hope it won’t take me another 10 years to finish. XD I wish I could have made something special to celebrate but uni is super busy, I had a practical exam just yesterday and new study material just keeps coming in. However, I’ll post some fun facts on tumblr later so maybe you’ll enjoy those. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to host a stream today, we’ll see.

I was thinking about maybe having bookmarks or postcards printed for the occasion and those who are interested could get some, you’d need to pay for your shipping though. Anyone interested?

Also, new page is up, enjoy :D

My mom called me during study session so I figured why not draw while I‘m given the opportunity.
