#shadowlands prediction

One of my predictions for Shadowlands that I’m invested in is the Breaking of the Timeway. And why I think this is plausibly going to happen in Shadowlands, is because the writing team uses methods of foreshadowing that can be tracked. In BFA I speculated that it was going to end in a Mak’gora between Sylvanas and Saurfang because Saurfang says not once but twice if Sylvanas ever crossed the line he would challenge her to a Mok’gora, in that instance it was foreshadowing that was self fulfilling prophesy. we were just waiting for the line to be drawn. 

In this case I want to talk about another type of foreshadowing called Chekov’s Gun. there’s an old saying if you write a gun into your story the gun has to go off and that’s the premise of a Chekov’s gun, it’s also why at some point Gallywix’s gun pointed at Stormwind is going to go off, it’s a literal Chekov’s gun but the Timeway breaking is another Chekov’s gun that is not as literal as Gallywix’s gun. 

In legion there is foreshadowing to the Timeway breaking. When Elisande uses temporal magic to stop the attackers in Suramar, Khadgar tries to pull Tyrande from the spell and almost breaks the Timeway himself. It’s an offhanded comment that is easily lost in the commotion of the battle but this is a Chekov’s gun and the trigger was almost pulled. 

Another form of foreshadowing is direct. We know from Cataclysm, End Time dungeon that at one point the Timeway becomes broken and Nozdormu becomes his evil alter ego Morozond. We know it happens the question is when?

That’s where patterns reemerge and I can make an assumption that it will be in Shadowlands. BFA as I’ve noted previously on this blog followed beats of WoLK. Shadowlands is starting to emerge with some of the same plot beats as Cataclysm. So plot threads from Cataclysm will be re-magnified in Shadowlands. 

Pair this with Sylvanas and the Jailer’s plan to dismantle the ladder of the  universe not run at a time but in one action, the only action that would destroy the whole universe would be to break the Timeway.
