SHOW PREVIEW: Kaytranada at The Anthem

Louis Kevin Celestin, better known as Kaytranada, is a Haitian-Canadian self-taught producer who creates dance tracks with up-and-coming musicians, while captivating fans across the world with his DJ sets.

Celestin began DJing at the age of 14 and quickly started producing music a year later. Celestin went by Kaytradamus in his early career, releasing two projects under this alias and various SoundCloud remixes. In 2013, he changed his alias to Kaytranada and began to receive recognition through remixing tracks like Disclosure’s “January.” From gaining momentum on SoundCloud, he went on to produce songs for artists like The Internet, Anderson .Paak, and Gorillaz early in his career.

In 2016, Kaytranada released his debut album 99.9% featuring some of the most notable artists today in alternative R&B and hip-hop, like Vic Mensa, GoldLink, AlunaGeorge, and BADBADNOTGOOD. The songs on this album utilize heavy 808 drum machines, guitars, percussion instruments like cymbals and shakers, and samples from all over the musical sphere with impeccable vocals. In 2018, Kaytranada released a double sided EP that features his second most listened to song on Spotify, “Chances,” featuring Shay Lia. In the last month of 2019, he released his sophomore album, BUBBA, which features artists he has previously collaborated with like VanJess, Tinashe, and SiR, as well as some new players like Estelle, Pharrell Williams, and Charlotte Day Wilson. Kaytranada goes above and beyond on his second album to create a playful yet lo-fi club vibe.

Kaytranada’s music is infectious and dominates dance floors worldwide. He makes feel-good music that combines skillfully crafted, relaxed beats with heavy hitters in the hip-hop world. Kaytranada helps put on artists who need more exposure and both of his albums are curated to fit that. He hasn’t toured fully since the release of 99.9%, except for a few festivals.
