#some of my musings

LIVE

I sometimes see certain things in the polin tag that leave me with a sour taste in my mouth. like, people complaining that this new season is about polin and not benophie (when it makes sense, because polin has already been laid out by previous seasons and Sophie is yet to be introduced, so it makes sense they’re gonna laid it out for benophie to happen next season) or saying that since Kate and Anthony weren’t the main characters of their own season, they hope to see other storylines shadowing polin so we all can know how it feels (which is something both cruel and rather childish to say).

also, why do people hate Penelope so much? she’s a complex character, she has done rights and wrongs and that’s okay, that’s realistic. is any of the Bridgerton characters perfect? no, not at all. but for some reason, some people out there want to see Penelope punished for “what she did”, and the preferred form of punishment seems to be not getting her happy ending with Colin. characters don’t have to be divided into heroes and villains. they can be complex, they don’t have to be perfect examples of good and evil. Anthony did some very questionable things in season 1, just like Daphne and Simon. And now they seem to be some of the fan favourites. I just wonder what is it that when it comes to Penelope, people want to see her being punished so badly (I do have a few answers for my own question, but well). let’s remember Marina was consciously tricking Colin into marrying her and nobody here seems to be mad at that. people seem to understand that it wasn’t nice, but she did what she had to do. I wish the same understanding was given to Penelope too.

and lastly… people saying that this season better not be charged with sexual tension and explicit scenes… because they cannot picture Penelope having sex? Penelope and Colin deserve to have their season full of the same yearning, passion and intensity that other ships got and will get in the future. They deserve to have a good season, even if you’re uncomfortable with the idea of a plus size character being worshiped and desired (and don’t even say it’s because Penelope is too innocent, she’s not. She’s proven multiple times how complex and witty and mature and smart she is, and she’s the same age as Eloise and I’ve never seen anyone say this about Eloise).
