This happened after a late night conversation with @hbprincealice in which we both reached the conclusion that Soren absolutely wear a “Thomas Aquinas in the streets, Marquis de Sade in the sheets” t-shirt…to church. In fact, it’s the only reason he even goes to church.

Severus: This year’s Pride. You’re going to the Edinburgh one, no?

Eloise: Really? *trying to control the urge to go ‘aaaaw’* You don’t have to, I mean mam and Soren are going , and you hate crowds and noise…
Severus: So? Is not like I’m contractually obligated to stand right in the middle of crowd wearing a neon pink “I love my lesbian daughter” t-shirt. Unless you absolutely want me to. *shrugs*
Soren: If you want I can get you a rainbow “My son looks fabulous in heels” t-shirt.

Severus: *rethinking life choices*
Soren: *looking at a quiet Severus* …we could just get YOU heels and that would make this all a lot more straightforward.

Snape would be a bad father, but not for the reason most think. The way Snape treats Neville or Harry ≠ the way he would treat a child he loves. Rather the opposite actually, Snape would behave the exact opposite way. We know this for certain, because we have an example in canon of how Snape treats children he likes/loves. Who? Draco Malfoy.
Snape lets him get away with everything under the sun, indulges him, teaches him hexes to use on the people he dislikes, is open in his favoritism. Snape would raise a child of his the way the Malfoys raised Draco. Mind there would be some important differences, in that Snape wouldn’t stand for blood purism, cowardice, and would demand high grades (which might be a source of tension if the child is stupid). But the overall model of spoiling the brat rotten is the same.
(A bully asshole spoiled vile brat who gets good grades, is brave and against blood purity? James Potter is what happens when you let Snape raise your kids lol)
This basically how I write dad Snape, lol.
In my defense thos in my fics his kids have a mother who’s more than willing to discipline them AND call Severus attention to the fact that he isn’t doing it, and there´s also a large extended family on her side he can (and does) get advice from, specially those who are parents themselves.
Doesn’t mean Soren and Eloise don’t get as spoiled as Severus can get away with, but they’re not brats. Well, Eloise isn’t…Soren is a whole other matter. He’s no James, but he’s kind of a mess, specially because Severus has some guilt issues about not wanting him at first, so he waaay overcompensates, and that’s…not good, Eh, it’s complicated.
