The best that money could buy wasn’t always enough, especially now. He sighed as he ran a hand over the cold glass, rose creeping around the edges of the frame like a rogue vine. Looking through the fogged glass at the person he loved and promised to love for the eternity to come. Yet the freeze pod seemed to want his heart to shatter as it blinked a soft red, illuminating his partner’s blue face in a soft purple light.

The damned machine was failing and he knew there wouldn’t be much time left before his beloved other half melted away, the attempts to save them was for nothing in the end. A useless waste of money and time, grief had set in long ago but lay dormant until this point. He wondered if he had maybe paid more for it or spent his money to better protect the other then maybe things would’ve been different.

After a moment more of thought he sighed and gently pressed the button, the pod opened with a soft hiss. After a eternity of moments, both were dressed in their space suits, one carrying the other’s limp figure in his arms past the sparking wires and containment breaches in the space ship. He finally reached the gaping hole in the ship, void and stars reached out for eternity ahead of them. He took one final glance at the ship then back to his partner, who’s face made them look as if they were merely asleep. He wished his soulmate a warm and loving goodnight, embracing them tightly and stepped into the empty vacuum.
