#steven is too pure for this world

LIVE

Steven seeing the intense emotions that drove Marc to let Steven front, seeing Steven finally understand that every single time he woke up somewhere weird it was because Marc couldn’t cope. Steven realizing that he might not be the ‘original’ personality but seeing where he fits in Marc’s life and still choosing to be compassionate to and protective of Marc…..

pedulum-chronometry:

Balancing the scales and Jake possibilities

The scales balancing out the way they did is very interesting to me. It very heavily implies that only the things we feel horrible for, that we can’t forgive ourselves for, are the things that drag us under. Our own guilt drags us down, not some arbitrary good or bad checklist.

Me see that with Marc. He said he didn’t have a lot of options so he did what he could but while he feels bad for killing, even under Khonshu, he sees the justification. His brother on the other hand…..

The scales don’t balance bc Steven is gone. They balance because Steven helps Marc see that what he feels guilty for was not his fault. He was just a kid. He literally needed to hear it from himself to move on bc no outside force could help him get there.

Also, it is really interesting that Steven and Marc aren’t aware of or acknowledging Jake. And they can balance the scales without him somehow?!? You would think you need the whole system? But maybe it’s just the parts that interact and know they share a body (and thus the responsibility of that body’s action) that can be co-scaled?

This makes me think Jake might be more of a survival on-the-defensive ‘we do what we need to in order to survive’ type personality. Where Steven can’t and Marc has intense feelings of guilt related to killing, Jake knows that survival is the whole point. Jake knows that you don’t always get the luxury of thinking and feeling.

If Marc created Steven to save the good parts of his childhood, then Marc made Jake to deal with the survival stuff he can’t stomach having done when he already thinks of himself as a killer.

Upon rereading this makes Jake sound inherently violent. Which no let me rephrase.

Jake is where Marc places his basic ‘I deserve to be treated like a person’ feelings. ‘I’m alive and conscious and don’t want to die. It’s kill or be killed and I choose me’ is a VERY difficult sentiment to have when you have intense guilt and self-worth issues. I feel like it overlaps with passive suicidal tendencies where a person doesn’t really value their life enough to move to preserve that life.

Jake is the response to that. Jake doesn’t have the built in self-worth issues of Marc and as such can fight for his life with no guilt. Jake can ask women out on dates because he’s single and she’s pretty and why not? Jake is not just survival. Jake is Marc’s self-worth storage system.
