‘Far from city lights’

Sulina, Romania

Right behind the hotels lying at the Danube river, Sulina shows another side which often remains hidden to tourists. The pavement is gone and cars are rare, but the citizens here are just as nice and welcoming.

Sulina, Romania

Sulina, located in the Danube Delta, is only accessable by boat, but it is definitely worth the (sometimes a bit long) trip there! The small city lies close to the Black Sea and borders Ukraine, and many of the residents of the small villages around Sulina are ethnically Ukranian themselves.
Small tours to some of those villages, such as Letea, are available and give a very nice insight on the life of the people living there, as well as on the stunning nature.
I went to Romania for a whole month last year when I was sixteen. It was the first time being so long apart from my family but it was also liberating in a way. Sulina was our first stop on this journey (apart from arriving at Bucharest airport and taking an over-night break in Tulcea) and the journey couldn’t have started any better!
So, even if you might feel intimated at first, if you have the chance to travel and feel ready, then please take it! :)
