saw someone say sage would suck at cooking but, based on nothing but that scene where Tulsi says the fruitpunch was Sage’s recipe, i think Sage is actually the best cook in the starsworn. This isnt saying much though because i also think Anisa and Felix fucking suck at cooking

anisa and felix look at him and go “this fucking guy cant cook” because hes ripping a steak apart right out the wrapper but earlier that same day both of the aforementioned had fruit cups for breakfast because they burned everything else

Favorite time of the year?: I’m gonna say winter, but a very specific part of it, December to half-January. New Year’s Eve is my favourite holiday, and the time around it - approximately from early before Catholic Christmas to the end of Svyatki - always makes me feel excited, even though nothing really outstanding usually happens to me at that time. I never feel as much in my element as when I’m picking presents for my friends and walking among shelves full of Christmas tree decorations. And I love snow, even despite the cold.

Comfort food: my first instinct is to say ice cream, but I don’t actually eat it very often. So maybe processed cheese? Not the kind for spreading on bread, but the kind in blocks. Curd cheese snacks too. We have really excellent brands of both here.

Do you collect something?: I sometimes buy early 20th century vintage postcards at flea markets - I’m not a serious collector who researches their origins and so on, but I do have a special photo album for them.

Favorite drink: alcoholic - beer, non-alcoholic - black or chamomile tea, though most often I just drink still water.

Favorite song/artist: my favourite songs change all the time, so the next item on the list will provide a more accurate picture. Artists - a lot, but if I had to pick just some of them, then Florence and the Machine and Hozier for the music in languages other than mine, and Melnitsa and Aquarium for the music in my mother tongue.

Current favorite songs: I appreciate that it says “current” because mine change all the time. Right now it’s Good Ones by Charli XCX (one of the songs I’ve been listening to almost every day for the last, uh… since it came out, actually) and Пасха by DDT (makes me feel like my own funeral service is being read but it it somehow a good thing? does that make sense???). I’ve already made this joke on Twitter but my taste in music really is half tumblrina, half sad 60 years old man

Favorite fics: so many! Seriously, I’ll just leave a link to my ao3 bookmarks here - at least one third of what you can find there qualifies as my favourite. To single out something, The Second-Breakfast Club byAngela and Lisafer is one of my latest faves, a Lord of the Rings modern!AU that plays with canon events in an absolutely hilarious way. Oh, and I don’t think any fic has made me cry as much as and i’ve written pages upon pages trying to rid you from my bones (ASOUE, Lemony/Beatrice/Bertrand my beloveds) by @luluwquidprocrow/@whoslaurapalmer

Finished the adaptation of The Essex Serpent and I am not satisfied (book spoilers below)

What a disappointment it turned out to be in the end. Beautifully filmed (the sea-green/blue/brown colour palette is very aesthetically pleasing), but falls flat compared to the book, especially the ending. The main romance feels superficial and underdeveloped - what is friendship and kinship turned love in the book, here just looks like another “they met and quickly were magically drawn to each other” story. Most other dynamics have suffered too, and that’s in a deeply character-driven story. (The relationship of Luke & Martha was done the best, in my opinion, so at least there’s that). And the ending! What I loved about the ending of the novel is how it shows that sometimes you don’t end up with the person you’re in love with and that’s okay, that doesn’t mean you can’t be happy, because you can still have love in the form of family or friendship or doing the job you love. And in the show… well, the main couple got together, and everyone else is okay or something. Boring.

Also, they didn’t even include my favourite scene :( This book, while good, is not among my absolute favourites, and yet there is one scene that is THE scene for me. Fucked me up when I was reading it, rent free in my brain, and so on, and they didn’t even include it. Yes, I’m talking about Luke attempting suicide and getting mad at himself for being unable to go through with it because it would break Spencer’s heart.

me: I tried reading comics and realized it’s not my cup of tea unless it’s standalone graphic novels or limited series, because I find such amount of canon, even when sticking to specific characters, too extensive and difficult to follow, and different stories/series are often contradictory, which is confusing

also me: already thinking which Arthurian texts to read next having barely finished reading Le Morte

(the list below was intended for personal use - I obviously cannot recommend things I haven’t read - but then I realized that some of these works are available online/can be downloaded for free because they are public domain, so if I add links, someone else might also find this useful)

Medieval texts:

  • The Mabinogion. I think I’ve read some individual stories from it at some point and enjoyed them. in any case, excited to see the knights of the Round Table with magic powers
  • The Wedding of Sir Gawain and Dame Ragnelle. don’t know how I still haven’t read this one (even though I know what it is about in general), shame on me
  • The Romance of Morien. heard good things about this one, also curious to see an Arthurian text with a Black man as the main character
  • Sir Gawain and the Lady of Lys. honestly, no idea what this one is about, but the full text is on Wiki and it’s pretty short, so I might as well give it a try
  • not losing hope to find Les Prophéties de Merlin in English because I don’t think I’ll be able to handle it in French. please, internet, just let me read about Morgan and her girl gang

Modern texts:

  • The Idylls of the Queen by Phyllis Ann Karr. everyone seems to love this one, and “Sir Kay solving a murder mystery” sounds pretty awesome
  • The Ballad of Sir Dinadan by Gerald Morris. it is Book 5 of The Squire’s Tales, but the description seems like I would be able to understand it without reading the previous installments. if I like it, might read some other books from this series (there is a novel about Lynet and a novel about Lunette, not sure if they aren’t combined into a single character but I like both of them anyway)
  • Gawain and possibly Lancelot by Gwen Rowley. saw a post recommending them, sounds like something I might enjoy
  • Tristan and Isolde: Restoring Palamede by John Erskine. probably??? do it for him (Palomides)

Non-fiction:

  • King Arthur’s Enchantresses: Morgan and Her Sisters in Arthurian Tradition by Carolyne Larrington. looks extremely relevant to my interests
