mermaid number 5, a coelacanth! this one was really fun, I gave her sodalite jewelry cause it looks similar to the pattern on her tail, and gave her an ammonite fossil to hold as a way to allude to how ancient coelacanths are :D
mermaid number four! for green I chose the mahi mahi as inspiration, and thought it only fitting to make this mermaid hawaiian! that being said, happy asian and pacific islander heritage month <3
happy mermay! this year I decided to make a rainbow of mermaid designs based on real fish, so obviously we’re starting off the month with red! she’s based on a coral grouper, which inspired me to give her coral jewelry :D
hi yes have another lil mermay piece!! this is arden (left) and melanie (right), my giant squid/sperm whale mermaid couple! I thought it would be cool to pair up two mermaids whose animal counterparts are Mortal Rivals™ :D
I wasn’t expecting to finish this piece in time for mermay, but I’m glad I did! I’ve had this idea of a red tailed catfish mermaid in the red lotus lake for years, and I’m really excited to have finally brought that idea to fruition! this piece took around 12 hours, 3 of which were spent on the water alone XD
happy junicorn and, of course, happy pride! similarly to my narwhal mermaid, this piece serves as a transition from mermay to junicorn! this gal’s horse half is cremello, her fish half is based on a rose-veiled fairy wrasse, and the flowers in her mane are beach plums :D
for the last day of mermay, I wanted to transition into junicorn by designing a narwhal mermaid! this is one of my favorites, I really enjoyed drawing her! plus, she’s got a grey color scheme to contrast with my other rainbow mermaids :D
since pink is my favorite color, I just had to include a pink mermaid in this month’s series! and, since she’s based on a pink anemonefish, I wanted to draw her holding a basket of anemones <3
more junicorn! with the primary and secondary colors done, I decided to move on to tertiary colors to continue the theme. here’s a dapple grey with himalayan blue poppies for turquoise!
i think it’s time for bed I couldn’t remember the word “foal” and i thought to myself “horse sapling”
antlers, a thing that horses have
I WAS TIRED
You and me both
@headspace-hotel I hope you don’t mind, but I had to try my hand at drawing a ‘horse sapling’! and @hummerous I added a unicorn horn to replace the antlers you mentioned :P
