Has anyone else noticed computer literacy going down with kids compared to us at that age? Not that they’re 70 year old level or anything but it’s weird, the general trend has been the next generation is better at technology than the last, it doesn’t seem to be that way anymore
Yes and I think it’s because we grew up on computers where you had to figure stuff out by googling around + actually had full control over the system, while lots of young zoomers’ primary interaction with tech has been their smartphone/tablet where user control is greatly locked down and mostly stuff “just works”
I’ve noticed the exact same thing. They’re perfectly proficient with computers as long as everything is working as expected but if something stops working or they need to do something a little non-standard, they have no idea what to do. I told one kid at work to just force quit a program that had frozen and he had no idea what I was talking about or how to do that.
