LIVE

And then Eddy wakes up at 11.

Oof, don’t want to be caught in the line of that morning breath.

I wonder if Eddy sleeps late every morning. It is summer after all. He is not a morning person as indicated by the school season. Eddy falling asleep during classes should have been a recurring gag.

Eddy goes off to take a shower only for the drain to clog up flooding his whole shower.

Lucky for Eddy that this is a cartoon.

Eddy finally wakes up to notice that something is clogging his drain.

I love Eddy’s reaction as the soap floats by. He acts as if this happens all the time. It could. It’s rare whenever we see the Eds, especially Eddy, alone.

Removing the clog in his drain Eddy’s shower is fixed in an instant.

Or not…

The Kanker’s actions have caused controversy among fans. Lee corners Eddy in the SHOWER. Thankfully they are both fully clothed.

Obviously the girls learned their behavior from their mother. I have made up my own backstory for their mother who is feverishly working day and night to keep a roof over her daughters heads that she does not realize what they are doing.

Notice how the girls back away from the Eds in the later seasons and the movie. I believe that they got a long talk from their mother about their actions. And I think they also learned from the way the Eds treated them in this episode. I will get more in depth on the Kanker’s reactions in later analysis.

“Kanker!”

And Ed, Edd n Eddy can check Titanic reference off the list.

It’s the start of midnight for a new and exciting month! How is it already June so fast?!

That means it is now EENE OTP Appreciation Month!

A Twist of Ed is a really good Kanker centric episode! The Eds get their needed revenge on the girls. It’s a fun episode to watch and I enjoy the interactions between characters.

Fans have a mixed relationship when it comes to the Kanker. They may not be the most appealing characters but they have a lot of backstory and depth among other characters in the show.

I cannot wait to analyze this episode! Sit back and enjoy A Twist of Ed!

Wow, it is has been a while since I posted an update on this blog. I am sorry for inactivity! I have been meeting to write a post but then I get caught up doing something else.

I have been taking a hiatus from analysis. I have been doing well. Aside from the crazy pandemic that is awry right now, I have been busy in my job as freelance writer. It’s so much fun and I love the articles that I write! With that, I spend all day on the computer so at night and on weekends I would like to have a break.

Feel free to send me questions. I would love to do my analysis again, but for now I am just taking a break. I love going back and reading over analysis I have written.

Thank you for your continued support! I hope all of you are staying safe and healthy.

“Check it out, boys!” In enters Eddy ignoring that Edd’s house has just been blown up into smithereens. This is one of my favorite Eddy entrances!

I noticed that he is more independent in season 5. In Fistful of Ed he is not a member of the Happy Cluckers Club. And then in the next season, he is walking alone into the school! I wonder if that means that the Eds were trying to be more independent from one another.

The Eds, mostly Edd, is ecstatic that Eddy has a jawbreaker. So…. are the Eds going to share it?

Edd immediately catches himself regaining his adult persona, forgetting about the child that is trapped. The writers flanderized Edd’s character into an unlikeable person who doesn’t care if he gets his friends into trouble.

One of the first episodes of season 5 has Edd delivering Ed and Eddy’s vile report cards to their parents all because the principal asked him to. Now, Edd could have declined for his friend’s sake, but Edd is trying to make a positive image for the sake of his parents.

“Where on earth did you get that from?” The expressions are so good!

“I scammed it off Jonny! What a pigeon!” Hmm, I wonder how Eddy stole the jawbreaker before Jonny began talking about the past at Rolf’s house.

“YUM!”

Okay, this is cruel of Eddy to do to his friend, but you still have to admit this is a funny joke.

It’s not often you see any animals in Ed, Edd n Eddy. Isn’t this the third time we’ve seen this skunk in the series?

“Spicy!”

“PTOOO!” That is my favorite noise!

Look at Edd thinking in the corner.

While brushing Eddy’s hair, and surprisingly Eddy lets Ed do this, Ed asks how Eddy got the jawbreaker from Jonny.

I love Ed and Eddy’s friendship. I feel that it is underrated at times. They have such a sweet friendship, goofing around with each other. Without Ed, Eddy would also forget to be a kid. Of course, Eddy acts like a kid, but he feels that he wasted most of his childhood masking himself as his brother and doing these pointless scams. Eddy is himself when he is with Ed.

Oh, look at that sass Edd is giving Eddy. Hmm, why are you looking at Edd like that, Eddy?

“Well, I was walking home from my detention, of course, and I spot baldy coming out of the candy store!”

This is my favorite part of this episode. Everyone clearly breaks the fourth wall. And you know, since they can relive on memories from the past like this, they could have done this technique where they pull in the scene in which describes their flashback in the episode The Good ‘Ole Ed! That would have been fun to see.

And so, Every Which Way but Ed starts out with Ed and Edd hanging out together.

I love whenever Ed and Edd hangout. Each Ed has an individual relationship with each other and I like how episodes display that. While Ed and Edd are two very different people, they still enjoy being in each other’s company.

Since Eddy had detention, Ed and Edd decided to spend some time together. I have a headcanon that most of season 5 takes place in September-October. Right when they go back to school, the Eds are put against one another by the school and the cul-de-sac kids. Eddy slowly becomes more irritated, too.

I liked the school season. It was something new. I didn’t like the Eds attitude towards each other, but that is important. Not every friendship is perfect.

Ed and Edd must have already completed homework if they had any. For a while, I was confused on the timespan from when we saw Eddy walking home from his detention and now when it is nighttime. We’ll talk about that later on.

Edd is conducting, or he is just having fun with static electricity.

“Zappity-zap-zap!”

For years, I always thought Ed said, “Somebody’s hubs up!” Hahaha!

Edd goes on to explain the meaning of static electricity. “ Did you know that the treasure trove of accessible energy lies right beneath our feet?“

I love this screenshot.

Ed questions if this supposed static electricity happens between his toes.

Instead of being brash, Edd acknowledges Ed’s answer and decides to let Ed wear his slippers to bring his point across. Wow, Edd is offering his own slippers to Ed? Hmm, then again, he offered the slippers to Eddy in the first episode before entering his room.

Aw, look at that look. Ed loves whenever he is praised for his opinion.

"You see, by shuffling along the carpet, you absorb eager electrons, rapidly looking for a direct escape.”

Aw, look, Edd’s doing the happy leg!

Wait, was Edd wearing slippers over his shoes?? Well, he wears socks over his socks sometimes.

This scene has a great direction.

Unfortunately, Ed gets carried away with the lesson and repeatedly rubs his feet along the ground until all the electricity absorbs into his body.

I wonder if Ed gets over-stimulated at times. Edd even points out that Ed is prone to over-stimulation in The Day The Ed Stood Still.

“Now, Ed, there is no need to overdo it,” Edd says calmy.

Edd takes the static electricity lesson to the extreme running all throughout the house giggling to himself. This is one of my favorite sequences of the episode! The animation is spectacular.

Season 5 of Ed, Edd n Eddy switched to digital. While it is very different from the traditional drawing animation technique used in the previous seasons, the show took more creative liberties and took a chance to experiment.

I love Ed!

You have to watch this sequence. It is so fun! Ed is just being Ed. And Edd is terrified of what his parents might say if Ed (once again) destroys the house.

I wonder if Edd lies to his parents telling them that he didn’t have friends over while they were gone. He admits that his father exploded the first time when Ed broke the screen door. Clearly, Edd’s parents don’t like Ed and Eddy.

That may be the reason why Edd tends to leave the group in the beginning half of season 5. Since he is back in school, Edd is between being with his friends or being a good student to the school faculty.  He wants his parents to approve of him. Edd goes so far as to join the school football team just to get their attention!

Edd still fears about everyone finding out about his past. Even now, Edd is still nervous to let his friends into his home. I wonder how Eddy feels whenever he lets his friends into his home. Sure, they only hang out in his room, but I am surprised there is no other evidence about Bro once living in the house aside from one picture on the staircase.

Interestingly, there are no other artifacts of Bro, not even in the attic where Eddy is searching for presents in the Christmas special. And Eddy mentions that his parents are pack rats. Hmm, I wonder, if they do still have any remembrance of their oldest son in the house or if they’re trying to forget about him. They already closed off his bedroom.

Getting back on topic, Edd is afraid that one of his friends will learn the truth about his past. We will talk a lot more about Edd’s past later in the episode.

Now all the furniture is looming towards Ed who is absorbing all the electricity.

“ED, PLEASE, STOP!!” Edd begs, grasping the chair.

I love the expressions in this show!

“Zappity Zap Zap!”

Ed’s static electricity is so powerful that Edd’s entire house explodes.

Oh dear, Edd’s parents are going to be furious. Unless cartoon magic saves the day.

“Tag your it!”

The expressions and coloring in this scene are fantastic!

YAY! Analysis has returned! I have missed doing these!

The Kankers become more creeped out as Ed flirts with them. Nobody had ever flirted with them before. Did their mother ever talk about that? Or did she only complain about how worthless men are?

I like how Marie puts her hand against May’s shoulder. That is so sweet! I know there are theories about May and Marie being fraternal twins. The more I have thought about it, it makes sense. The two have a similar facial structure. Lee is the oldest, I think she is around 13 or 14. Since their mother was very poor she couldn’t afford to send the girls, especially Lee to school. So, Lee is one to two grades behind her peer group.

While the girls were terrified in throughout this episode they most definitely got a learning lesson out of all this. They have to read the signs.

Lee pushes Ed away. Nobody is going to hurt her sisters.

Lee has to play the mother figure whenever their mother is not around. And I believe that their mother assigned her that role. Due to their upbringing, I don’t think the girls ever experienced childhood. They’re not social so they never had any friends to play with. And it’s likely that they had to move around a lot.

The Kanker’s don’t care that they’re poor. They’re not searching for help. Knowing that they are different from everyone else is not the reason why they bug people.

Edd points out that the plan is starting to work.

Eddy can’t even watch anymore. But then, he sports his mask and agrees that Edd’s plan was going to work all along.

This image. This image right here has Bro and little Eddy written all over it. We all know that Eddy’s brother manipulated Eddy thus causing him to have trust issues. Eddy even tries to manipulate others but he pulls back.

Although he masks his brother Eddy is afraid to become his brother.

I love Edd’s confidence. And he gets that from Eddy. Edd’s parents destroyed all the confidence that he had. Ed and Edd have a lot to thank Eddy for.

Next, Ed tries to offer the girls candy and mud inside of a hat. And then afterward they can make-out.

The Kankers are repulsed. And this is their technique!

Marie begs for Lee to do something.

Marie and May look up to Lee.

With quick thinking, Lee uses May as a boat and Marie as the paddle to get them across the stream and through the woods.

PRECIOUS!

I love when Eddy is physically affectionate!

Eddy considers that they should go do the reverse psychology on the candy shop to get a free jawbreaker. That would be a nice little end to the episode. The boys are free from the Kankers. And they deserve a jawbreaker.

But Edd has something else in mind.

To ensure that they fully have a Kanker-free history they need to make one more strike.

I am not sure if I agree with Edd or not. The Kankers appear to understand what just happened and look as if they’ll back off, but maybe not forever.

I think Edd is going a little too far.

Eddy decides that he’s had enough and he’ll wait for the movie.

You mean Big Picture Show? That’s not for another six years, Eddy!

A Twist of Ed was released in 2003 while Big Picture Show came out in 2009.

Insisting that all three of them need to carry out this plan Edd asks Ed to NOT get Eddy.

To which Ed obeys and chases after Eddy who begs for Ed to leave him alone.

Now, this is sad seeing what Eddy had to go through in his past. He obviously doesn’t want to be a part of the matter. Ed and Edd would have been just fine on their own.

Since they’re known as the Eds, everyone thinks that they are one person. Even the Eds do. However, in season 5 they start to spend less time together. While they are on the rocks, that’s okay. It’s healthy for friends to spend time apart to be independent and seek their own passion and ideas.

Edd is dependent on Eddy. He still isn’t consistent. Notice how he always asks for Eddy’s opinion even in later episodes. Edd was close to leaving in season 5 but he doesn’t know how to fully interact socially with other people.
