Il Grande Fauno (The Great Faun), the singularly striking close-up portrait which graces this famous set of photographs by von Gloeden. By far the largest, clearest copy of this iconic image that I have ever seen, this gorgeous picture was donated by regular contributor John - my continued gratitude, sir, for sharing your finds!

A second photograph to feature von Gloeden’s ‘il Grande Fauno’ wearing goat horns, as here - in many of the other pictures he modelled for in 1890s Sicily, it’s apparent only his hair has been teased to pointed shapes.

A striking addition to Wilhelm von Gloeden’s Great Faun photographs from around 1895 - in this shot the model wears a pair of short curved goat horns to finish off his costume!

Another striking photograph of The Great Faun, perched on the weatherworn rocks of the hills above Taormina. This model was well-chosen for his part, a broad-chested, sturdy-limbed man of distinctive strong features.
Note the elongated shadow cast by his nipple!

Wilhelm von Gloeden’s Great Faun, part of an extensive series created around 1895 - I have several more from this set to share in future posts. 

Arguably the most famous of Wilhelm von Gloeden’s photoshoots, the set depicting The Great Faun - with his hair teased into a pair of sharp points for horns, this handsome model appears to have enjoyed himself immensely as he poses in a wide variety of attitudes and locations. I’d somehow neglected to include any of this series til now, a sad and entirely accidental oversight I will rectify without further ado!
