sneaking in one more book before i go on vacation! it took me a few books, but i finally got around to binding some of my own writing. this is it will be this, always. i’m quite fond of the yellows (though if i ever use yellow bookcloth again i am investing in thicker fabric because it is quite see-through even with the paper backing)
even though i went with a pretty whimsical design for a quite angsty story, i do like the way it complements the text. the sewn headbands look better than my last attempt which i’m happy about! i’m also fond of my first attempt at putting the title/author on the spine (though i am jealous of all of you who have cricuts or other ways to make detailing like this easier it’s me and a few paint pens against the world right now)
i’ve had an interesting progression over my last few books from ‘oh neat this lies really flat!’ to 'why does this lie so flat and how can i fix it’ lol. i don’t have those nice gutters i see on other books and my stitching is very visible when you open to the middle of a signature. there’s something about the spine/hinge area of my books that just isn’t tight enough and it’s driving me crazy. i tried pressing the signatures before sewing, sewing tighter, and creasing the signatures while sewing with a bone folder on this book and it really didn’t make a difference. i think i’m going to try another stitching style and fiddle with my measurements for my case, but ultimately, it’s not a huge deal and does make it easier to hold the book open.
HUGE shout out to jonmartin for being THE couple to go through the whole “run away with me” “I can’t” ordeal only for six episodes later to actually fucking COMMIT to it.
