I haven’t really seen anyone talk about this, but, like, what the heck happened to the people who were turned into avatars before or during the apocalypse? They no longer have a connection to their entity, so you would assume they’d die, right? But Simon Fairchild survived long enough to be beaten by a mob of survivors.

Jon would start losing all of his memories related to the eye when he was disconnected, so are they all gonna slowly forget everything while the survivors remember? Or is everyone, including the archival gang, gonna forget?

I genuinely don’t know which option is the most distressing, and to cope I’m gonna keep looking at everyone’s “post apocalypse” memes

No but I’ve always loved the spiral because normally when mental illness intersects w horror it’s like,, the mentally ill ARE the horror imposed on non mentally ill folks , the “crazy” people are what’s scary to the “non-crazy” victims of horror, that’s the BASIS of most mental illness horror. But in TMA, the spiral has always, ALWAYS been about the horror of mental illness itself, and the focus is on the people suffering from mental illness. We are no longer the horror but the protagonists. It shows what’s ACTUALLY SCARY about mental illness: not how mentally ill people “affect and terrorize normal people” but how we are the victims of a terrifying thing. And, like in this episode, it’s commentary on how we are the victims of people who don’t understand/don’t believe in/fetishize/villanize us. The spiral isn’t fear-mongering anti-mental illness porn, it’s horror that is cathartic and relatable to mentally ill people. It’s for us, not about us. I’m wording this really poorly, but I just… really like that about this show

Is anyone else kind of upset with Jon for agreeing that Basira “has had it worse” which completely diminishes the fact that Martin literally had to mentally fight his way out of the lonely and has been put in multiple dangerous situations by Jon unknowingly? It just seemed really weird for him to try and speak for Martin’s experiences despite them being quite different from his own. Like Martin said, it’s not a competition, but also Jon had no right to say that???

Little Foreshadowing Things in s1

So obviously there’s a lot of big subplots that are introduced in s1 that we weren’t aware of til later seasons, but these are just things that I feel anyone would easily look over. (Aka Jonny is a lowkey genius, and it took me forever to realize these)

  • First episode featured cigarettes, and now we’ve realized how important the concept of addiction is to Jon’s arc.
  • Julia and Trevor’s introductions were back to back, and now they’re Hunt buddies.
  • Sasha’s first appearance was a stranger episode, and, well, we know how that ended up. She also spent the time debating the difference in pronouncing something.
  • Melanie’s statement was in a presumably Slaughter attached building. She became Knife Gal™️ Also her being the only one to really know something was truly wrong with Sarah Baldwin vs. her being the only one to see Not!Sasha as different.

Feel free to add on! I’m sure there’s more, these are just the things I’ve noticed :)

Things I’ve Said Out Loud Because of This Damn Podcast Pt. 2

  • In reference to my depression, “I will not let that rat bastard Peter Lukas keep me from going out.”
  • Saw a spider hanging over my head, freaked out, and ran to tell my mom “Annabelle is spying on us, but I’d really appreciate it if she did it more subtly.”
  • Me, unprompted: I don’t know, I think I’d be okay if I got struck by lightning. Michael Crew turned out pretty chill. My mom: Isn’t he dead now? Me: Well it wasn’t the lightnings fault!!

So I really want to be able to get into RQG because it seems really cool, but I have an awful attention span and listening to over 150 hour-long episodes sounds extremely daunting. Every time I’ve tried to start it, no matter if I’m doing something else or trying to pay attention to it, I can’t seem to sit through more than one episode. Does anyone have any tips to maybe help out with this?

Finally finished all four flesh flowers inspired by episode 171 of The Magnus Archives. The combination of botanical and anatomical illustration in these concepts really hit a sweet spot for me.

Plus the first one I did, just to keep all four together.

I can list every episode of s1 in order now, without looking. It’s become a problem.
