Ice Nine Kills are back with their latest album, The Silver Scream and they’ve brought some horror icons along for the ride. Fans of Ice Nine Kills (or simply INK), know they are huge fans of Horror in any form. Since forming in 2002 they have released four full-length albums. There last Every Trick in the Book took inspiration from literature they love, for The Silver Scream it’s the same idea only with iconic Horror films.

The Silver Scream, the bands fifth full-length offering, provides 13-tracks of Horror-inspired mayhem. The is Vocalist Spencer Charnas, Guitarist/Vocalist Justin “JD” DeBlieck, and Bassist Justin Morrow career-defining album.

The album erupts with The American Nightmare. A Nightmare on Elm Street inspired track, with vicious verses, and infectiously melodic choruses. Their own version of Freddy’s Rhyme is a highlight. It’s the perfect start, erupting with tremendous energy that continues with “Thank God it’s Friday”.

Here INK channel Jason Voorhees, with a heavy assault with blended synths to produce one of their best tracks to date. Their chorus captures the campfire sing-along vibe beautifully. They continue this momentum with hypnotic guitar work and an outstanding vocal performance in Stabbing In the Dark. Channeling Michael Myers, Ice Nine Kills brings the cinematic to their music.

“SAVAGES”, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre-inspired track is an anthem. Taking a more straight-forward rock sound with thumping drums and sharp guitar work. The Jig is Up featuring Randy Strohmeyer, is a powerhouse. The vocals are stand-out. Strohmeyer is outstanding on guitar with this Saw-inspired hit.

Slowing things down here, with the piano-driven, power ballad-esque track “A Grave Mistake”. Inspired by The Crow. INK show their versatility before tapping into their comedic side on Jaws-inspired, Rocking The Boat. Featuring former Jeremey Schwartz to provide some pitch-perfect duet and truly fishy puns.Enjoy Your Slay, an ode to The Shining, features guest vocals from the director’s grandson, Sam Kubrick. The lyrics perfectly capture the film’s most memorable moments. “Freak Flag “ inspired by Rob Zombie’s The Devil’s Rejects has an anthemic Rock feel. The World In My Hands is a nod to Edward Scissorhands and features Tony Lovato providing background vocals. The track also features a killer guitar solo. Jumping the gun with references to Christmas with Silent Night, Deadly Night, an ode to Merry Axe-Mas. Here the band uses church bells with great effect and a face-melting solo   Things get hairy as we near the end with “Love Bites”, inspired by An American Werewolf in London, which also features Chelsea Talmadge of Stranger Things in a beautiful duet. A truly beautiful track before Ice Nine Kills close The Silver Scream with anIT-inspired hit.No Horror-inspired album would be complete without a reference to the king of Horror Stephen King. “IT Is The End”, which features Will Salazar of Fenix TX guests alongside JR Wasilewski and Buddy Schaub of Less Than Jake, who lend their hands. This is the perfect way to end an incredible album with a surprising venture into Ska-Metal.Overall The Silver Scream is packed with tongue-in-cheek lyrics, pun-tastic humor and with zillion references create a sound that is never boring. Each listen will divulge something new. Ice Nine Kills have outdone themselves and perhaps produced the best album of 2018.
