in the kenobi series, there are many things being dramatized on screen that are core to many vaderwan fics, and it’s not because the show writers are reading fanfic! it’s because the show is drawing off the same material that fanfic authors are. it’s validation that vaderwan authors accurately identified potential that was always latent in the original text of the films. they were able to look from mustafar to the death star and make some deductions, and it’s so satisfying to see that they called it right
all of us ✨force dyad✨ fucks are getting so much food it’s unbelievable, you guys, everyone who wrote about them connecting in sleep or bacta, when they’re vulnerable. last episode we got waking dreams of anakin,now we have the inescapable, inexorable connection with vader,their injuries similar because vader wanted them to match, wanted obi-wan to suffer just like he had done. their connection is dramatized through rapid intercutting, blurring the lines to the audience between who is who in that moment, when they share so much. almost nobody else in the galaxy is allowed to witness vader in such a vulnerable state, stripped of his armor and mask, but the eternal exception is always obi-wan, who has always been in a place beyond intimacy, as anakin’s best friend, his other half, the author of vader’s agonies and the target of his rage. in many ways they are the same person split it half, each half craving to reunited with the other, à la plato’s aristophanes, and if star wars could stop making these two soulmates for five fuckin minutes, that’d be great, thanks.
I didn’t get my roses in real life yesterday or today, so I’m buying my own in the form of my first Pride shirt, since I’m volunteering at Pride for the first time this year.
