Mother’s Day in the Parker household

  • May has to work on Mother’s Day, but that doesn’t stop Peter from planning a surprise as a thank you for everything May does for him
  • He cleans the apartment and, after quite some struggling, cooks (edible) dinner
  • Unfortunately, the cooking took way too long and now he doesn’t have enough time to go pick up the cake he ordered from some fancy bakery and get back before May gets home
  • Though he can make it if he swings…
  • So he puts on the suit, swings through the city, changes in the alley near the bakery and goes in
  • The cake is beautiful
  • He changes back into the suits and swings back to the apartment as carefully as he can
  • Things are going smoothly - the cake suffers no damage and he’ll arrive back with enough time to spare
  • But as Parker luck would have it, there’s some commotion in the streets below, and Peter being Peter is incapable of ignoring the calls for help
  • He swings down, the box with the cake still in his hands, hoping to resolve whatever is going on with words
  • It doesn’t work
  • After the fight is over, Peter is standing on the roof, looking at the damaged cake
  • Dejected, he swings back to the apartment
  • He has just enough time to change out of his costume before the lock clicks and May enters
  • She is looking around the apartment, praising Peter for all his efforts before she notices him shuffle into the living room, dented box in hands
  • “What’s wrong?”
  • “This was supposed to be for you.” He then presents the box without looking at May. “Sorry it got all ruined.”
  • May takes the box out of his hands, puts it on the coffee table, wraps her hands around her nephew and sits them both on a couch
  • “Oh, sweetheart. It’s perfect.”
  • “No it’s not.”
  • “Yes it is. You’ve put all of this effort into everything, so what if the cake got a little banged up?”
  • Feelings and hugs ensure
  • She then takes the box into her lap, tears a bit of the cake and eats
  • “Hey, this is delicious! Here, try it. I promise the banged up look didn’t take anything from the taste.”
  • Peter is reluctant at first, but then he smiles and takes a piece too
  • “Eating dessert before dinner?”
  • “I’ll make an exception today,” she says, smearing some of the icing on Peter’s nose
  • Peter leans his head on May’s shoulder. “Happy Mother’s Day, May.”
  • And so they sit there, eating the cake with their bare hands, laughing and having a good time
