A generous reader’s kind donation to the collection, an unusual and eminently interesting tintype image, which appears to have been woefully ill-treated in the past - how fortunate that it survived at all!

I remain utterly at a loss to explain what goes on in this tintype photograph! At first I thought the seated fellow was acting the sewing up of a split in the other chap’s trousers, with white paper playing the part of the tear - but then I spotted more paper and a pair of scissors in the kneeling man’s hand.
Any ideas?

A handsome pair portrayed in this 19th century tintype portrait, particularly the chap on the left dressed with stylish flair, and an attitude which suggests he knows just how very beautiful he is!
