@arwenindomiel’s tolkien south asian week day 1: ainur + monochrome•MELIAN
Melian was the name of a Maia who served both Vána and Estë; she dwelt long in Lórien, tending the trees that flower in the gardens of Irmo, ere she came to Middle-earth.Nightingalessangaboutherwherevershewent. - J.R.R. Tolkien, The Silmarillion, “Of the Maiar”
[ID: An edit for Melian, consisting of six images mainly in red and orange.
A south asian woman with her hair in a braid. She’s wearing a red and orange gown and golden jewelry. This image contains text reading “Melian the maia”
A rainforest. The green is recolored to be red
A nightingale singing in a tree. Like the previous image, this has been recoloured to be mainly red
The same woman as in image one, with a veil now. This image contains text reading “and among his people there were none more beautiful, nor more wise, nor more skilled in songs of enchantment”, which is a quote from The Silmarillion
That woman again, now once more without the veil. The text on this image reads “Melian the maia”, like in image one
Thranduil, King of the Woodland realm, and his son, Legolas Greenleaf.
“I’ve only had [Legolas] for one day, but if anything happened to him, I would kill everyone in this room and then myself.” (Rosa Diaz, Brooklyn Nine-Nine)
This is the exact vibe and vision I had. Originally, this was going to be a royal portrait of Thranduil, but I thought it would be cute to add in Legolas who just wants to play. This was my first time drawing a child and it was interesting!

Too late the ships of Círdan and Gil-galad the High King came hasting to the aid of the Elves of Sirion; and Elwing was gone, and her sons. Then such few of that people as did not perish in the assault joined themselves to Gil-galad, and went with him to Balar; and they told that Elros and Elrond were taken captive, butElwingwiththeSilmariluponherbreasthadcastherselfintothesea.

But the Loremasters of later days, when more friendly relations had been established with Avari of various kinds in Eriador and the Vale of Anduin, recorded […] the names that the Avari gave to themselves. They had evidently continued to call themselves Kwendï, ‘the People’, regarding those who went away as deserters. The Avarin forms cited by the Loremasters were: Kindi, Cuind, Hwenti, Windan, Kinn-lai, Penni.
