Feeling a bit of disconnect from the dash right now. I thought there was clunky moments in that execution of that stream and some awkward bits that just didn’t work in the medium.

But I still liked the story they were tryingto tell.

And I don’t feel like it was like… hidden or subtle? Dream and Wilbur flat out confirm on Reddit that Wilbur’s plan only worked because Wilbur didn’t actually know the full extent of how fucked up c!Dream is. So it wasn’t a victory but a fluke that they even made it out of the prison.

And Tommy was hurt by it, and Tommy was fucking traumatized to hear Wilbur yell that he was going to die to prove a point (a point that Tommy makes sure to say wasn’t even Wilbur’s to make) and Tommy had another moment, just like in Ho16, where Wilbur is frighteningand unpredictable. Like they’ve set up all this stuff and Tommy’s reactions to it well before now.

It was still a great story with flawed execution as long as you don’t look at it as a “fix-it. Like, c!Crime are incredibly fucked up, but fucked up in the most interesting way to watch. They’re fucked up and fractured in a way that’s wrapped in deep affection and love and trust in spite of everything around them and their own actions. It’s not a healthy relationship, but it’s a great story.

Wilbur was self-centered, but Wilbur wasn’t selfish and a lot of the critique of Wilbur’s actions I’m seeing doesn’t seem to make the distinction. Wilbur overestimated his ability to fix things and his importance to the narrative (which he always does), but he came from a place of immense fear and hurt and guilt over Tommy. Wilbur was self-centered in his attempt. His attempt became about showing Tommy that he was in Tommy’s corner and his anger was on Tommy’s behalf. Wilbur has no idea how to fix things or show Tommy how much he cares other than the grandiose. That’s one of his most consistent flaws. Wilbur’s actions were perfectly in character.

Wilbur’s deep loathing and fear that everything bad can be traced back to him is inherently self-centered. He can’t imagine a bad situation on the server that isn’t, in some way, tied to him. And he wasn’t wrongabout the situation with Dream. Dream did want Wilbur alive. Wilbur just got the reasons wrong.

I dunno. I guess I just feel like the reactions to the stream have been this swooning "omg c!Crime reconciled and everything is fixed and Wilbur was so smart!” or harsh critique that Wilbur was out of character or cruel and made no sense and all of it came out of nowhere.

It was a stream with a lot of potential, but ultimately had some production and pacing issues. But the stream itself absolutely was in line with everything we know about c!Crime.
