Thinkin’ bout vakarios au (no reapers au) and I just…keep coming back to that one idea of Thane being an undercover assassin who’s got a contract on Archangel and his day job is just being a local store cashier and Garrus is still doing archangel stuff and he’s after some assassin who seems to be killing at random at night and during the day, Garrus runs some sort of gym maybe or smth and he goes every Thursday to Thane’s store to buy his essentials and that’s when Thane notices the cute turian and Garrus being Garrus just starts small chats with Thane on how he likes how he set up his store aesthetic etc and over time Thane is just excited for every Thursday to come around bc Garrus is just staying longer and longer in their chats until finally Thane asks if Garrus wants to join him for some coffee/tea
Garrus agrees and they start dating all while they both have no idea they’ve been hunting eachother during nighttime and they probably have fights while fully masked etc.

Summary: Garrus tries to support Thane through an exacerbation of his Kepral’s Syndrome.
After Thane started spending more time with others outside of Life Support, his absence became more noticeable when he would retreat back to the safety of his room. It rarely happened when Thane would need to skip out on their meals in the mess, which made it all the more apparent when he withdrew.
Garrus usually respected his need for distance, but something felt offon their last mission together. Thane still dominated the battlefield, but his attacks didn’t strike with their usual force and focus. Garrus’ attempts at banter were met with a small, warm smile instead of a witty remark.
Maybe he was overthinking things. It wouldn’t be the first time that Garrus misinterpreted a situation, but that nagging feeling that Thane wasn’t at his best wouldn’t leave him be. Like an itch under his plates that he couldn’t quite scratch.
Eventually, the urge to check on him overpowered the need to stay put.
