#vehicle voltron
Honestly, I wish more these Voltron remakes were willing to explore characters, lore, and plot lines outside the GoLion based season of the show. Logically, I get why this is. The GoLion based season of DoTU was the big hit; it’s what made Voltron one of the biggest children’s franchises of the 80s. The American produced season isn’t nearly as beloved or widely known. And Vehicle Voltron? Why would these companies take the risk of incorporating parts of a show that flopped the first time around?
But on an emotional level I just hate seeing remake after remake with that leaves all these good characters and potential storylines collecting dust. Like, Lotor will always be my favorite character but Hazar is probably the most developed and complex character in DoTU. But will he ever make it into a Voltron remake? Don’t hold your breath. And VLD wanted to make its universe more complex by developing intergalactic politics and cultures, but didn’t actually do a whole lot of that in practice. The Vehicle Voltron season provides a good base for that with with the workings of the Galaxy Alliance and its relationship with the Drule Empire, something that could potentially be fleshed out more and taken in a number of different directions…but it’s not in the GoLion based season, so who cares.
Sadly, I don’t think that’s going to change when it’s once again time to milk some more money from the old Voltron cash cow. After what happened with VLD, I think we’ll most likely get a very safe, by the numbers Lion Voltron remake. And, hell, that wouldn’t bother me so much if we actually got some producers and writers willing to challenge some of LV’s more toxic aspects. However, even VLD, which took a lot more risks than most other Voltron incarnations actually double downed on some of the Lion Voltron and GoLion’s worst aspects (in my opinion). I mean, I hope I’m wrong…but I’m not getting my hopes up.
I was looking up Vehicle Voltron, and I can’t believe it has 15 pilots compared to Voltron, which has 5. Imagine combining and you’re someone in one of the cars, and you’re just..
“I’m a foot.”
