LIVE

As I continue writing “I lie (I do it all the time)”I came to a startling realization about people who write Ventus and Vanitus interaction.

Ventus, would not be on Vanitus’s side after anything Post-KHIII. If anything, he would probably join Aqua in disliking Vanitas. While Roxas was accepted as his own person by Sora, the opposite was true for Vanitas and Ventus.

At the end of BBS, Ventus go at Vanitas with a furious vigor to destroy him and the X-Blade, disregarding his own safety and life in the process.

At the end of KHIII (not including Re: MIND and the DLC, I haven’t finished those yet), he tells Vanitas, TO HIS FACE, they are the same person. That he didn’t want to torn apart and for Vanitas to exist in the first place because of what he represents.

Because of their interaction, I would say Ventus probably dislikes Vanitas more than Aqua does. Maybe even hate the guy.

Out of the WF trio, I would argue Terra would vouch for Vanitas because he knows what’s it’s like to be manipulated and controlled by Xehanort. MF was literally ‘Norted 3 different times. I’m well aware Vanitas willingly complied with Xehanort. But considering how vulnerable and new Vanitas was when Xehanort took him as an apprentice, I would say it doesn’t count.

I haven’t played KHUX yet. Don’t spoil that shit for me.

Vanitas, if he was going to hypothetically be redeemed and live with the Wayfinder trio, would most likely going to bond with Terra.

Ventus actively shuts down the idea of them being two separate people, maybe having misplaced resentment at Vanitas from Xehanort. Plus, Vanitas is content with staying in darkness and acting as Sora and Ventus’s shadow. I can guarantee, if he was fighting someone else, he could have been redeemed or at least told he could have a chance.

Aqua obviously hates the guy, and Ventus doesn’t think too fondly of him either. Looking at Xehanort’s notes/character files/unused lines in their KH3 boss fight, he obviously has fond (platonic) feelings towards Terra. Even though it was emotions and experiences from Ventus. Plus, Terra knows what it’s like to be manipulated by Xehanort and could probably sympathize with Vanitas’s experiences.

I really do think some of Vanitas’s emotions and fond feelings towards Terra are genuine. Ventus just steered him in the direction of seeing him as a big brother figure, as much as he loathes to admit it. I also low-key think Ventus and Vanitas have fucked up views of respect as well. But that’s a different story/rant for another day.

There’s also the possibility of Aqua being able to bond with Vanitas even before Ventus because, again, she could sympathize with being trapped and falling into darkness. Despite Vanitas fighting dirty and being a jerk in both BBS and KH3.

I just think Ventus projects too much onto Vanitas. Not only that, I think he has enough self-awareness to see he could have ended up in Vanitas’s position if things were just a little different. I also think Ventus believes he’s the superior half, mostly because he got to keep the body, the name, and Chirithy by his side, while all Vanitas got was memories and fragments of darkness nobody really wanted to have around.
