Branding Irons were made by the Blacksmiths of Roissy for use at the Chateau and for sale in the gift shop.  Many girls came in touch with Roissy Iron long before they came to the Chateau

To run Roissy takes a large number of skilled people.  These report to the HIgh Steward, as was the case at all large estates throughout Europe before the First World War.  Second line aristocrats, below Dukes and Princes only had Butlers, but on the great Estates, all staff from Butlers to groundskeepers and dairy men and maids were under the High Steward.

Among those who report to the High Steward is the Chief Master Blacksmith.  Roissy has a lot of ironmongery from the small chains to the giant cressets and braziers and thick chains.

Reporting to the Chief Master are the Farrier, two journeymen and three apprentices.  These look after the shoeing and other needs of the horses.  Many members of Roissy find it convenient to keep their horses there, so close as it is to Paris.  The both ride in the park and sometimes chase or hunt the girls along the bridle paths.

The Master Blacksmith  and his journeymen and apprentices make and repair the chains collars, branding irons and other interesting items.  New Items are make to replace those that are worn out or broken, or for stock, or for sale in the Roissy Giftshoppe.

Currently the Master Locksmith and his journeyman report to the Chief Master Blacksmith, but in times past he has also been under the control of the leather master.  Control of this department has been long disputed between the Leather Master and the Chief Blacksmith.

It would be his greatest success, It contained a rogue templar, Rebecca and Rowena facing torture, derring-do and due to the conventions of the time a happy ending.  It would cement the connections of the Templars with satanic evil as even King Phillip had not.  It would also connect them most firmly with torture and the torture of the innocent.  And all because a Scottish lawyer had a free hour outside the Chateau of Roissy

As the lawyer’s tour moved to the dungeons down the steep old dangerous steps, the servants’ told him of the Templars, and how many had gone wrong and tortured women and men for their own purposes.  The lawyer’s mind began to work as a novelist, considering a rogue templar, captives from despised populations, threatened with cold iron and hot fire in a merciless dungeon.

Chateau Roissy

At the door, the lawyer explained he was an antiquarian interested in history and old castles.  He asked if he could have a tour.  The servants, although existing on the food grown in the kitchen gardens and the excellent wine cellars were delighted by the bright British gold he offered as a generous tip.

While in Paris visiting the sites of the former emperor’s palaces and monuments, on a fine day in hired an open coach and took a drive in the countryside.  The coach was stopped as the horses were rested outside a rather derelict country property.  “That was the country place of the Marechal d’blank, the coachman informed him.  The Emperor gave it to him after taking it away from Talleyrand.  The coachman spat.  Now Talleyrand is back as foreign Minister and the poor Marechal is shot.  Now Talleyrand has grander  places, than the one the Emperor took away when Barras the fat, when he also took Josephine.’

“I have to cool down the horses a bit before we drive back to your Hotel, M. L’eccoisais, why don’t you look around, the servants have not likely been paid and would be glad of the tips.

The Scottish (Ecossais) lawyer, poet, and secret novelist walked up to the doors and the idea for one of his greatest novels.
