Summary: y/n thought she escaped being part of victorias army, but after she runs into the volturi things take a bit of a turn

Y/n’s POV

The forest had a sort of swirling fog today. A normal person could barely make it through here without tripping over something. There was something almost sinister about the mist. But you welcomed it, the morning dew clung to your skin, it felt refreshing. Your fingers dug into the cool dirt, you had always enjoyed the outside. It made sense that was where your life had suddenly ended. And why the woods had called you back. It was home.

Your eyes snapped open at the soft crunch of leaves and branches, the first warning sound of someone approaching. Or several someone’s it seemed. You stayed sitting on the ground, you welcomed any visitors. You doubted they would do anything to you. But it was as if the trees were whispering for you to beware. You crossed your legs and brought your hands in front of you. You were determined to not show any sign of weakness. The four cloaked figures were in front of you in a second.

“It appears we have a straggler.” The tiny blond one said first

“Can I help you?” You smiled at them

“Don’t mess with us, girl.” The blond one hissed, “we know you were in Seattle.”

“Oh. That.” You weren’t proud of these past weeks. You knew you had gone on a hiking trip with some friends, all of you foolishly ignoring the so called “bear” attacks that had been plaguing the area. You could be considered lucky, seeing as you were the only one to make it out of your group. But this life you had been given was anything but simple. You had woken up with your throat feeling like it was on fire. Apparently, Riley had “saved” you but you knew you waking up had been a thing of chance. Then him and that curly haired woman tried to see if your abilities would be useful. You didn’t realize the extent of them until you tried to run. The idea of facing another group of people like you was not something you wanted to do. And no matter how much Riley had tried to make you think you owed him, you would have rather risked it on your own. You didn’t like all the carnage that group constantly left behind, and you followed. Thinking it was the only way. It wasn’t until you left that you realized you didn’t have to make such a scene, you didn’t have to ruin that many lives. It was definitely easier on your own. But your choices seemed to be catching up to you.

“Well?” The blond one interrupted your train of thought.

What exactly was she expecting you to say? “I was there, and then I left.”

“And why did you decide to do that?” The one who looked strikingly similar to the blond one spoke, siblings surely.

“I just didn’t want to fight anybody.” You shrugged.

“Regardless your whole coven has caused a great deal of damage to the city. Almost exposing our secret.”

“I didn’t even know there was a secret. And I certainly don’t know you. So you’ll have to catch me up to speed.”

The blonde one scowled at you and felt as if your body was torn apart from the inside. Your hands now grasped the dirt beneath you. You made sure to not let out a sound no matter how much pain you were feeling. You wish you could control the ability you’d been given but at the moment all you could do was grit your teeth together.

“Jane.” A deep voice warned. Then as quickly as it has come the fire wracking up inside your body diminished. While you didn’t need to you took deep breaths to try and settle yourself back down.

Felix’s POV

It was honestly quite admirable that she didn’t scream. You knew Jane didn’t like to be interfered but you had been frozen in place until you saw her writhing in agony, and still. It was impressive. She refused to let Jane win. You were well aware of the repercussions her gift entailed. What you weren’t sure of is why you felt the sudden urge to protect this person.Jane had stopped long enough to turn to you. She wouldn’t let others see the volturi fight within themselves but we’ve had a long day and there’s a first for everything.

Before she could even ask you how you dared to interrupt her, the silence surrounded you. If you’d been around long enough you knew it was almost impossible for it ever to be completely silent. Unless Alec used his gift, of course. But out here? In the forest, in any forest it was never this quiet. And the quiet was eery. Still. It caught you all off guard, the rustling in the tress was gone.

The animals were nowhere to be heard and it was as if the four of you recognized it all at once. Then the trees seemed to wind almost as if the branches had begun reaching for your group. The trees bending in a way that seemed as they were ready to entrap you, the fog that clung to the forest floor did not help.

“Sister?” Alec’s voice was wavering, something was wrong. He never had to deal with silence. You all turned to look at the newborn who had been curled over in pain just a moment ago glaring, it wasn’t like Jane to be unsettled. She took a step back as vines seemed to wrap around the newborns arms. Could she be the cause of all of this?

You found out soon enough. Flowers began growing through the tree branches, they would be beautiful if the trees didn’t look as if they wanted to kill you. Suddenly something shot out in front of Janes face, a pink bud.began growing at an impossible pace. You all seemed entranced by the nature surrounding you until the bud exploded in Janes face.

“What are you playing at?” She growled she began walking forward, before she reached toward Alec staggering.

“Sister?”

Jane shook her head, blinking hard, before suddenly collapsing. Alec began panicking.

“Jane??? Jane!!!” He began shaking her trying to get his twin to open her eyes. You and Demetri looked back at the other vampire, her eyes no longer seemingly glowing. Her glare didn’t leave her. Alec was now furious with revenge.

“What. Did. You. Do. To. HER?”

He had laid Jane down but his arms were outstretched. A cloud unlike anything you had ever seen beginning to seep out. The other vampire faltered. She may not have known who we were but she knew that Jane wasn’t the only gifted one. Her instincts took over and she began to run.

“Find her. Find her right now. I’m going to rip her apart.” Alec was tantruming. Jane was usually the one to throw a fit but Alec was not going to let this stand.

“Alec, please.” Demetri tried, “Take Jane back to Aro and explain what happened.”

No. I want to—“

“If you kill her we may not be able to get Jane back.”

Alec snarled at the thought of that. “Fine. Find her.” With that he picked up Jane and ran off.

“Well, that could have been worse.” Demetri said after Alec was out of hearing distance. You raised your eyebrow at him, “Imagine what the leaders would have done if something happened to both of the twins.”

“True. Do you think we will be able to find the one who did this?”

Demetri grinned, “Don’t insult me. Now, do you want to tell me why you’ve taken an interest in this one?”

There were often time you were glad you were a vampire, this was one of those times. You were sure you’d be bright red otherwise. “I don’t know what you mean.”

“Sure Fe.” Demetri was nothing if not cocky when he was right, “better get to it then.”

With that he was off. You hated when he did that. You groaned as you tried to catch up with him. The vampire in question did not make it easy. We had been chasing her for a day and Alec was not happy we kept losing her.

It was the end of the next day before she finally stopped.

“Alright how long do we keep doing this?” She called down to you both from a tree, she seemed so comfortable. It’s almost as if she belonged out here.

“As long as we need to Cara.”

“How do you keep finding me?”

“Let’s say our coven has a wide array of abilities. Isn’t that right Felix?”

“Yes. It would save us some time if you would just come with us.” She tilted her at your response, probably realizing this was the first time she’d heard you speak. You doubted she had a good impression of you but she gathered her composure quickly enough

“Mmm no thanks. If I had wanted to I could have filled this whole area with those flowers that uhm knocked out your friend.” She smiled at your silence, “then I would have all the time in the world to run.”

“So why let us keep chasing you then?” You asked her

“It was kind of fun but now I’m bored. So. I’m assuming you need me to fix blondie?”

“Mia cara, I strongly suggest you don’t let her hear you call her that unless you want to feel her gift again.” Demetri was enjoying some actual banter. Most anyone who dealt with us either immediately began pleading or trying to run, she had already done the latter.

“Yeah I remember. Though, that is what got her in that situation in the first place no?”

“I suppose so, but we would rather not have to bring anyone else into this.”

“I would.” She smiled at the obvious shock in our faces, “you all seem to think youre invincible but if I wanted to I could have put you in the same state your friend is in.”

You looked around at flower buds surrounding the area. She had easily entrapped both of you and it was clear she was about to win.

“What is it you do want then?” You asked

“Oh I’m not dumb I can keep a lot of you away but I know I’ll be caught eventually, I want assurance I won’t be killed as soon as I fix the mean one.”

“Oh I can assure you mia cara, Aro is not going to want to hurt you after seeing your abilities.” Demetri was confident as usual, and it was likely he was right. Aro would hate to pass this opportunity up but we all knew the twins came first.

She stared you both down for a second before shrugging and jumping down, “alright. Where are we off to.”

“I’ll have Heidi set up a flight.”

“Flight? We can’t just run there?”

“We could but I personally don’t like ruining a perfectly good outfit. And I don’t trust you’d like to swim the Atlantic on your own?”

She simply shrugged again and waved her hand, “well. Lead the way.”

“Perfect. Now is there something you would like us to call you or do you prefer my pet names?” Demetri winked at her, you fought the growl trying to escape your throat.

“Just y/n.”

“Well ‘just y/n’ I’m Demetri and that’s—“

“Felix. I remember.” She smiled at you at you and began following Demetri, you weren’t quite sure why it felt as if your were tongue tied for the first time in centuries. Perhaps this mission has been going on longer than you had previously thought.

The flight to Volterra was filled with questions from y/n. Victoria and Riley had kept her completely in the dark about who you were and the rules you upheld. We had known about Victorias plan with the newborns. Jane making the call to wait. Y/n gave us more than what Victoria had claimed. She had kept any potential gifted ones away from the main group, most of them trying to escape on their own accord. Not many of them making it. Y/n was more curious about how the Volturi came to be, Demetri said the one most knowledgeable in that was Aro. This was also true, Aro had the best way of retelling how the coven came to be. He was the most…theatrical.

“You don’t talk much do you, Felix?”

To be honest you hadn’t noticed you’d been quiet. You had been too busy paying attention to y/n and her questions and background, well you hadn’t felt the need to speak.

“I’m sorry y/n. I must be distracted.”

“Hm.” She turned back towards Demetri and you found yourself feeling, upset? Jealous? That wasn’t something you were used to. “So, you two know all about me. What about you two?”

“I do believe we told you about our jobs cara.”

“No, not the coven stuff. Demetri and Felix stuff. When were you turned, what was your life like?”

This caught both of you off guard. It wasn’t often you talked about your past. You certainly didn’t like to. The only ones who knew about it were the leaders and Demetri. Most everyone else just knew Aro had found you. So why did you feel like opening up to this person you’d never met before.

“Sorry. You guys don’t have to tell me, I was just curious.”

Demetri chuckled but went on to tell his tale, or what he remembered. He didn’t have any negative connotations with his last life. You on the other hand, it wasn’t pretty. And it was something you wished you’d forget. Not that you could, your transformation made sure of that.

Y/n’s POV

You felt bad something really seemed to be weighing on Felix. When he didn’t say anything after Demetri told you about himself, you decided to change the subject. You asked about the castle they lived in instead, maybe you shouldn’t seem so excited but their lives were fascinating. The only problem was Felix. He seemed like something was bothering him and you felt as if you might be the reason. And if you were why did you even care so much?

Going through the castle seemed like a fantasy. As if it wasn’t real. You chuckled to yourself that in a building full of vampires their home was the least believable way thing.

You were quickly brought out of your daydream. Entering the throne you were almost immediately met with a hiss. Janes brother, Alec you’d learned was still at his wits end. While he had done so purposely before the black mist seemed to seep out of him on its own accord this time. The other vampires backing away told you everything you needed to know.

“Alec. Perhaps you should go into another room my dear child.”

“Whos going to make me?” He challenged, the middle leader sighed because unfortunately he had a point. You took a step back and bumped into Felix. He out a hand on your back to steady you, and you remembered why you had even agreed to come.

You took a deep breath, “I suggest you figure out how to get rid of that creepy dog or I’ll make sure your sister never gets up.”

He let out some kind of guttural noise from his throat before glaring at me and began focus on returning the black mist. You tried not to let your relief show. Felix and Demetri headed up to the leader in the center, when they gave him their hands it was clear that that was the one known as Aro. When they stood off to the side Felix seemed to subtly nod to you. You weren’t quite sure if you imagined that. Still, it was comforting.

“Well it seems we have quite a gifted newborn on our hands brothers.”

“If they managed to subdue Jane they must be.” The older blonde one spoke, you assumed that was Caius since the ‘sad’ one was supposed to be Marcus. “For your sake I hope you can fix her.”

You tried not to let your smile give you away. Aro motioned for you to come forward and you extended your hand as you greeted him. When he finally read your thought a sort high pitch cackle emerged from his throat.

“Oh I assure you my dear nothing will happen to you.” He patted your hand and let you head down towards the center. Alec was still fuming, even more so now that Aro had granted you immunity.

“So she is planning on fixing Jane then?” Caius asked

“Y/n Would you like to tell us how to ‘fix’ Jane?” He seemed to stifle another laugh

Even a human could hear a pin drop in the room full of vampires on edge for your answer,

“Oh she should be waking up any moment. She’s just sleeping.”
