#winchester cathedral
Winchester Cathedral UK (Norman Gothic, 1079-1093)
At the beginning of the s. XX the cathedral was in unfortunate conditions, the structure was submerged more than 6 m deep in the mud. The conditioning work began in 1905 and for this it was necessary for a diver to descend to the foundations to place the concrete and cement as quickly as possible. The diver was William Walker, who single-handedly accomplished the feat. He finished in 1911. He became the hero diver who had saved the cathedral.
Winchester Cathedral UK
It has the longest central nave and, overall, the longest of all European Gothic cathedrals.
