#with no support on any front

LIVE

Neville focuses on building a staff that not only he, but the students in the castle can trust indiscriminately. Part of that includes building a network of support that wasn’t present in the castle in his childhood.

Parvati Patil is Hogwarts’ first career adviser and guidance counselor, and Cho Chang becomes an excellent school psychiatrist. Neville also works with the Muggle Liason Office at the Ministry of Magic to get permission to get Muggle parents more involved with their children’s lives at school, even going so far as to organize tour groups for the families of Muggleborn students.

Various other specialists make their way into the castle under Neville: a Muggleborn education reformist who implements multicultural practices within the school curriculum and offer diversity training and resources for teachers and students, a Dean of students whose job is to make discipline within the school consistent and fair, as well as others who come and go with their reform.

The new resources make the Prefect position more meaningful, now that there is someone to turn a trouble student toward. With the increase in the enthusiasm of the program, Neville decides to hire someone with a leadership background as the Prefect’s adviser. It helps the health of the school to have Prefects who know what they’re doing as leaders and role models among their peers.

The changes are made out of love for the school, rather than contempt for it, and they make the castle and the students much safer and happier.
