Just another typical day in 2020

I wake up early to meet my friend for coffee. We put our masks on to go in, as  is mandatory due to the viral outbreak that’s been ongoing for most of the year. We then sit outside, commenting on how the ashes falling down on us, courtesy of the California fires, kind of look like snow. He asks me how I’m coping with the loss of my dad, who died unexpectedly three days before my 18th birthday. I tell him that I’m ready for this year to be over. “Hey, remember when Australia was on fire?” “Was that before or after the world war 3 threats?” I then finish up to go to work, where my short day is turned into a long day as we take in 40 evacuated horses, having to build new pens since the roof of the barn blew off in a wind storm in february. My friend mentions something about fire tornadoes. I go home and tell my family about my day. They hardly listen, because this is the new normal.
