the way people are describing the situation with dave chappelle coming onstage at john mulaney’s show and making one joke that is just quite mild, tired edgelord attack helicopter type ‘humor’ (and in fact, was him joking about being attacked onstage)- all these little white kids on twitter describing THAT as being “ambushed” for TWENTY MINUTES and leaving them ~shaking from the violence~… yeah sorry that all just doesnt sit right lmfao. all these uwuqueer mulaney fans are fucking racists honestly. dont get me wrong, chappelle is offensive on many levels! but 1. who tf is going to fucking stand-up shows expecting to feel safe and cuddled? it’s the home of edgelords, and 2. i guarantee you mulaney has joked around in the same muddy semi-offensive ways so many times over the years, wait whats that? hes still a sweetheart white wife-guy in a slick little suit? oh i wonder why the twitter kids aren’t scared of being ~ambushed by him!
i will never understand the controversy around dave chapelle’s stupid attack helicoper jokes. this man has made a 20+ year long career off making offensive jokes about every minority you can think of, but making a semi-offensive overdone joke towards trans people is what got the masses angry. plus these people constantly defended john mulaney when he left his wife and had a baby with another woman after years profiting off jokes about never wanting a baby…they’ll always coddle their favorite famous white man no matter how red flag-raising his actions are
He also profited off jokes about how much he loved his wife and how dedicated he was to her, then left her and immediately got another woman pregnant (before even filing for divorce). Based on when the baby was born (November) and when his separation from his wife was announced (May), it’s very possible he was cheating on her. Guess his love for her really was a joke to him. As OP mentioned, he’s still seen as a “sweetheart white wife-guy”, he built his reputation on her and then cast her aside for someone else.
Dave Chapelle is also a scumbag, though not because of an “attack helicopter” joke. He stopped his hometown from building affordable housing. He’s also made a lot of sexist jokes, including jokes about #MeToo (specifically using the term “buyers remorse”) and jokes about violence against women. It’s very interesting that it’s the trans jokes that are getting him in the most trouble. To a lot of people, perpetuating harmful misconceptions about victims of rape and sexual assault is a far lesser crime than a “transphobic” joke.
TLDR: both men are scumbags, which is unsurprising given that they are both men.
Don’t you just love (and by “love”, I actually mean hate viscerally and with a fiery passion) the way that patriarchy demands moids be in a state of perpetual denial of their and their fellow men’s deeds in order to keep their evil, wretched, sexist system going?
Take my household, for instance. My eldest brother, Rob, lives in the same house as me, and he absolutely hates it whenever I criticize men in general for their shit behavior. He takes it personally, like I’m talking explicitly about him, even during moments when I clarify explicitly that I’m not. “Not all men,” well, that’s not what I’m like, yadda yadda yadda. Meanwhile, we have a dog, Emma, a boxer/pug/hound mix whom my mother adopted from the local animal shelter. She’s a rescue animal from an abusive household who came to us with a broken tail that she still can’t lift all the way almost four years later. Considering how terrified she is around most men, as compared to her comfort level around women, it’s pretty clear which sex the person who abused her was. But don’t mention that around Rob. He’ll lose his shit and go on one of his “not all men” tangents with all of the evidence to the contrary right in front of him. It’s ridiculous!
Even crime statistics. He has outright told me that more than 40 years of FBI crime statistics stating that men are responsible for 99% of all violent crimes and 98% of all sex crimes must be wrong because he’s not a rapist. It’s insane. I can spout off as many numbers and statistics as I want, but there is no getting through to him. And I don’t even know what to do or say about it. I try to keep the faith that there is hope for women yet. I try to share posts that remind me of that fact, but it’s hard. The more that I deal with men like Rob, the more I lose faith in the male half of our species because I know that my brother isn’t the only man in the world who thinks/acts that way. (And he’s the more decent one of my two older brothers. I haven’t even mentioned Brad yet; he’s even worse – like, practically an incel.) Men who are so desperate to hang onto their male privilege that any acknowledgment of the extremely obvious sets them off on a tantrum. It’s why I sometimes am not sure what to say about concepts like female separatist colonies. I have a certain degree of skepticism about both the actual workability of getting such a program off the ground and the political effectiveness of an idea that can only be utilized by 5% or less of the total population (most female separatist colonies that I have heard of/seen women say that they want to start are of the “lesbian separatist” variety, and most women, like myself, are not lesbians). However, I can certainly see their point. Political reforms can only be effective if either the majority of society desires those changes, too, or if we are able to wield the (wo)manpower to force change, and both of those things don’t seem super likely when it comes men like Rob, soooo…

Every time I think a man might be decent, he turns out to be a dick. In one case he turned out to be a dick who thought women were naturally uninterested in some of the higher paying STEM fields, another man turned out to be a dick who defended other men he cares about committing sex crimes (“it was a different time”, bullshit, girls and women have always been people), another man turned out to be a dick who tried to murder his girlfriend.
They make excuses because there are no truely good men, just varying degrees of bad that range from “sexist, but at least he rarely acts on his sexism” to “violent murderous sexist”.
