Ready to end the fight
Commission for @thethrillof!
omg….
IM LATE!! but I’ve finally made my contribution to the “life is too long and too stressful as is to worry about clothes” thing that’s going on right now
Ready to fight
Little bit of the process on this piece:
Here’s the sketch. I usually have a bunch of references open while I sketch to make sure things are on model (just my style, you do you)
After the sketch is finished, I use the lasso tool and just select the entire silhouette and fill it in with a solid color on a layer underneath the sketch
I turn the opacity of the sketch down and put it on the “multiply” blending mode and then alpha lock the flat color layer and color in the flats
I do most of my flats for each character on one layer haha
After the flats, I add some basic cel shading with a shadow layer set to “multiply” and a highlights layer set to “overlay”. I toggle between selecting the flat colors from the flats layer to make sure I stay ‘in the lines’ of the body parts for the shading
Then I start rendering everything on a new layer. Tbh I do most all of, if not all of my rendering/painting on one layer lol here’s a shot of the sort of first pass. Usually I’ll hit the “select pixels” option on the flats layer and then press Ctrl+H to hide the selection visual, just to make sure I’m staying on the character when I paint. A lot of times, I’ll also go back to the flats layer and select specific body parts to just paint those.
And then here’s the final! Once I’m done painting, I will duplicate and merge the layers and add adjustments layers and fix some color balance stuff
I might add him into a scene sometime, but for now I just gave him a drop shadow
Thought this would be cool to post because I love seeing process stuff, so I hope you all enjoy!
I use Adobe Photoshop, but these blending modes and tools are available in most digital art programs
