159 years ago, in 1863, the January Uprising broke out. It was another attempt by Poles to regain the independence lost in 1795. Gradually, the fighting spread to Lithuania and Belarus thanks to the involvement of Zygmunt Sierakowski and Walery Wróblewski. It was least visible in Ukraine. The Russians suppressed the uprising. Poles had to fight for their independence until 1918. About 3,500 Insurgents lived to see free Poland.
