At heart I’m a basic, practical, polymer-framed striker fired 9mm type of guy. That being said when I was a teenager I had a poster of a Nighthawk 1911 taped to the wall next to my PC because I thought they were the coolest thing out there back then.

As I got more into shooting as an adult I realized 1911s weren’t the most modern or practical setup but I always kept a soft spot for them. Owning a high end one like a Nighthawk became a daydream, but then a curveball happened.

A long time client of ours is selling off his entire collection due to health complications. Over the last ~6 years he’s been the nicest customer, has had excellent taste in firearms, and always been an absolute joy to work with. Even when he first started shopping with us he warned us that eventually we would have to help his estate move along his firearms collection but we’d all hoped that wouldn’t be for a very long time. I’d told myself that when it did eventually come to pass I was going to pick up one of his firearms to enjoy and hang onto.

Sadly that time is coming faster than anyone had anticipated, and yesterday he gave me the opportunity to buy his barely used Warhawk-T for a deal I couldn’t possibly refuse.

My inner teenager can’t believe I finally own that gun that I had the poster of on my wall, the sentimental side of me is so happy to own one of this guy’s very nice handguns, and the practical side of me is chuckling for spending so much on what will essentially be a range toy/safe queen I’ll never carry.

But overall I’m so happy and have zero regrets, I fully intend to keep this one for the rest of my life.

Handguns from Delta Force in the WGOT, Delta was a pioneer in the adoption of .40 cal in the armed forces, seen in the picture is a G23 RTF2, Delta made extensive use of the RTF2 guns.

The second gun, and maybe the most interesting of the pair, is a Remington Rand 1911, rebuild with a Caspian slide, Smith and Alexander main spring housing and magwell, king’s ambidextrous safety, three hole trigger and skeletonized hammer, Es Brown grip safety and a surefire rail that mounts replacing the slide stop.
