After thinking that they’ll only be one thing for the longest time; thinking, believing that they’ll never change. That they can’t change. That this is what it is, this is what it will be forever.
But then they met you.
They don’t know how, or when, but over time something grows within them. Something scratching underneath their skin, blooming in their chest that’s growing each and everyday with you.
And they don’t know what it is at first. They become a mess of feelings, and they end up hiding it for a while before it just finally bursts out from under the mask they carefully had constructed, the identity they had for so long.
You watch and you’re there for them, sitting by their side as they softly tell you of everything they thought impossible turning to be just the opposite.
They want to change. For you. Because you mean so much to them, it hurts to finally realize it. And they fought against the urge for the longest time, but now wrung out and bared open for you, the most vulnerable they’ve ever been in front of anyone, they admit they want to be different. To do different.
But they just don’t know how. It’s frustrating.
They don’t know when the tears started to gather and fall, but it begins to drip on top of your hands, held and intertwined between you both as you squeeze it firmly and catch their gaze, and they get lost in how the light seem to dance in them.
“I don’t know how either, but we’ll take it one step at a time, okay? Together.”
And some weight seems to settle on their chest, hot like fire, but it doesn’t burn. It’s love, they realize. Sure and bright and a welcomed sensation to replace the maelstrom of feelings beforehand.
