Translation note: We see posters about Alina Gray’s art in the scene with Madoka and her friends. The title of her exhibition is Todestrieb which is German and has two meanings:
1) Death drive / Death instinct
2) It is a direct reference to Freud. He considered the Todestrieb the desire to bring the living into Death. According to his belief, Todestrieb is the driving force behind men’s destructive tendencies and is shown as early as an infant taking pleasure in knocking over it’s own building of bricks.
It alignes perfectly with Alinas themes and art since she is all about life and death. In her final moments in arc 1 she talks about how humanity craves destruction which is based on the Todestrieb.
