She was a handsome woman, always had been. An assured woman who always fixed you with her gaze, commandeered you to be drawn in just like her husband, but demanded respect rather than obedience. Which isn’t to say she was a particularly good person, only than she went about not being so much better than her husband’s shallow niceness.

She barely lifted her head in acknowledgement of my entry, though she greeted me as one of her own, which I had always rather liked about her. In fact I liked Michelle Hallows a great deal. Judge me if you must.
