The Argosy was one of the major pulp magazines, and was published as late as the 1970s. It started off by printing Horatio Alger’s stories, but also went on to be the place where Tarzan, Zorro, and John Carter of Mars were initially published, along with Abraham Merritt’s better stories.
H.P. Lovecraft was a regular writer in their letters’ pages from fans, and his letters were so weird and uncomfortable (he described in a letter that a character was “prone to emotional outbursts like a common negro”) they felt like youtube comments written in the 1910s. Most people who responded to his letters laughed at him.
In its later years come the 50s-70s, Argosy became a paranormal/UFO digest magazine, and it was they who gave the world the idea of the “Bermuda Triangle.”
