sometimes u get emotionally attached to minor characters who will never show up again and that fucks you up
Omg I saw your Arielle tag and can we just have an in depth fan moment cause yes she’s my girl
she is a character who was in the show for maybe an entire minute of one episode and who had precisely three lines during her appearance. and yet i love her dearly, maybe because it’s so clear how much quentin and eliot love her?
yes, she was only in one segment of a single episode and was only mentioned like four times after that, but her presence still echoes throughout the rest of the show.
i want to know more about her! i want to learn what she was like, what she enjoyed and disliked! i want to know what made quentin fall in love with her!
and this is why i have two (2) fics in the works that have a heavy focus on developing her as a character.
Ohhh give me the links when they are up! I wrote a Mosaic fanfic when the episode just aired (The Golden tile) and I fell for Arielle so bad I ended up creating an alternative ending where she follow the boys with baby Rupert to Brakebills. Aaaaanyway lets talk more about her in the canon
What is amazing for me is that it was clear for arielle that from the beginning Q and el were a team. Maybe not lovers but she probably never saw one without the other. We know from Hale that he filmed a part where Eliot and Lunk were flirting a bit and so i imagine Arielle and Q always had a bit of ~flirt~ too (and please please someone write that foursome meant to happen) but it becomes different the moment she tells Q that she isnt with Lunk. He says he “always thought she was too good for him” and she is genuinely flattered which mean she prob had feeling for him as much as Q had for her.
Now if we fast forward in season 5 Alice says to Eliot she knew Q and him were in love and that she always was afraid that she would be an weight between them (which is a feeling she probably have since the first time she saw Q cheat on her with him, I mean we all knew prior to Qualice that Q had a thing for El its even in the book) so I must infer that Arielle probably had the same “i dont want to be between you” feeling.
How amazing must she have been not only for Q to fall in love for her but for Eliot to non-jealously sharing Q (confirmed by hale again). They were a triad. It was never Quarielle and Eliot It was Quarieliot. And as an asexual I can GUARANTEE you that you can have a profound relation with someone without sex, so I don’t even think Arielle and Eliot slept together. Or if they ever did it was with Q, for Q, ya know?
I don’t like that most of the fic reduce her to “she gave queliot a child and she left” because she was so much more than that. Prior to Q and Arielle dating, the cottage in the background is clean yet not homey. The fast forward shows that they have a garden twice the starting side, the cottage is repaired AND PAINTED, there is furniture, music instrument and place to sit cozy. They made a home with Arielle. They accepted their fate of staying there longer and we even see in a bts video that Eliot ask Q if they can bring Rupert and Arielle with them when they find the key.
We know Eliot isn’t the kind that is ok with “new people in his life” . His relation with Arielle is such a contrast with Fen. With Fen, he had a child ~because he had to as a King~, he didn’t want her around she was forced upon him and even more than once left Fillory without having her in his mind and came back months after. He learned to respect her, to have her as a partner but not a lover or a confident. Meanwhile, with Arielle, we see Eliot play with Rupert, he looks non bothered by seeing Q and her kiss since she was not trusted in his life like Fen and asking for her to come with them in their adventure is the proof that he cant imagine continuing without her. We all know how possessive Margo is of Eliot so being willing to risk Margo’s Wrath to stay with his family is so fucking big.
Also, after she died (confirmed by writers) Eliot is there for Q, but not in a ~i have to~ way. He takes care of Rupert while Q crumbles on a bench and sobs. He hold him and let him grieve. He covers with father and son who probably cried and mourn he together. Eliot had to stay strong for Q but I am sure while the two slept, El cried. Or at least mourn.
Because Arielle is important in his life. So important that one of the first thing he does when hes back in the present in Fillory is to take a peach and smell it and then devour itsexualy while this brings memory back. While the letter is what Start Up Q’s memory, what rebooth El’s is the peach! She is the one, after all, who says the famous line.
Peaches and Plum is not only a Queliot love story. Its a Quarieliot love story and I will fight anyone who says otherwise
