Ive made the decision to make a google doc about a hypothetical steampunk open world survival game similar to rust or ARK based on Victorian age paleontology and vintage paleoart named “antediluvian isles”. nothing will probably come of it but it would still be cool to just look at.

yelling-at-apes:

Hey, so ARK is taking suggestions for creatures, it turns out !

I made a thread for Ambulocetus, because it was what i instantly thought of when thinking of a fitting new creature (that isn’t another theropod, at least), it would be, like, super if people who can could upvote it.. No pressure though, genuinely !

https://survivetheark.com/index.php?/forums/topic/620912-ambulocetus-species/

As of recent, during my haitus, i’ve been getting back into ARK quite a bit, and now there’s an opening for prehistoric creature propositions. This is a very big occasion for me, both as an amateur paleoartist still trying to find my place, and long time fan of the game.

I know it’s not paleo, but, i invite anyone who can to upvote the thread (only if you can, as mentioned in the post, there is no pressure to do so)

That would genuinely mean the world to me.

Hi there, I’m looking for gaming blogs to follow.

Reblogging would help, if you have a bunch of gaming blogs that follow you too - but just liking is enough for me to check it out.

I put some of my favorite games as tags.

General gaming blogs, mixed in with humor blogging, that have a bunch of different content would be perfect.

But if you’re just a blog dedicated to one game, especially if it’s in the tags, is okay too. :)

Just send me an ask if there’s a specific blog you like and would like me to follow.

Thanks guys!

Mom: it’s hard to spot our Argents since they blend into the terrain.

Me: *makes a canadian flag paintover for them since I haven’t seen that pattern on an Argent for years*

I’ve been playing this game a lot and it was worth every penny.SzaboArt

Jurassic June day 15: Baryonyx! I have died too many times in Ark: Survival Evolved because of these guys. He’s smug because he knows I can’t get back to my stuff.

Jurassic June day 19: Therizinosaurus! If you have never played Ark: Survival Evolved, let me paint you a picture. You’re walking along the island, as carefree as you can with dinosaurs everywhere, when suddenly you spot this guy in the distance. You’ve never seen this thing before, so you look it up on Dododex and see that its pretty good at gathering fiber, berries, y’know typical herbivore stuff, so it would make a good tame. Everything you read says it’s an herbivore, so you think, “Oh it’s peaceful probably. Oh I’ll just use some tranq arrows and knock it out.” No. As soon as you get within 40 feet of this thing it sprints at you at full speed and slices you to ribbons. Then it refuses to move away from your stuff so you have to come back with more dino power. It takes a while, and probably some casualties (both you and your dinosaurs) but now you have this terrifying monstrosity. At least it’s on your side now I guess?

While browsing games on Steam the other day, I noticed that many gamers who have recorded thousands

While browsing games on Steam the other day, I noticed that many gamers who have recorded thousands of hours on a given game don’t recommend it (i.e., they provide negative reviews). This could be for a variety of reasons: they don’t like the game, they liked it but something changed and now they don’t like it anymore, or they do like it but are being funny. Many people change their review from positive to negative due to a glitchy update, charging for mods, increasing the game price (then offering it on sale for the original price), or having too many hackers in the community.

I pulled 3,000+ reviews for each game (1,500+ positive and 1,500+ negative) to create these distributions of hours played by review type. There were two exceptions (Rocket League and Civilization V) where there weren’t enough helpful negative reviews – in both those cases I used all the available negative reviews. The violin plots show the median (white dot), interquartile range (thick black bar), 1.5*IQR (thin black bar), and full range (extent of violin). I’ve limited the y-axis to 5,000 hrs, but many reviews came from players who logged far more – some reviews had over 15,000 hrs on a single game, which is impressive given that a year is ~8,766 hrs.

Of course, the violins show that gamers who recommend a game tend to play it for more hours. That said, the negative review distributions still show significant hours logged! Let’s all try to remember that we play video games because we enjoy them – if they stop being fun, it’s probably time to stop playing.
