#asshole research transport

LIVE

It’d started with their usual to and fro; suddenly some of the ripostes had been sharp, too much to gently parry. They’d cut.

You said I was a rogue

Acid sharp, clear like lake ice, cruel.

You were. You had hacked your governor module.

Still a little warmth, hint of the old stiffness returning.

You told everyone my private name

Barbs now, trying to catch; draw into a fight…

Dr Mensah asked you for your name, that was your name, was it not?

Dismissive, hint of—what, impatience?

The feed, their private feed, suddenly still: furious resentful silence. Full of the unsaid.

But I was wrong about one thing, you had not killed 57 people you’d been charged to protect. I was wrong about that, and I am sorry.

But I was wrong because you were too.

It got up, silently, and slipped out the door without a backwards glance.

He grimaced, rubbed his brow. In the feed ART wrapped itself around him, warm and gentle. Grateful.

Thank you, Dr Gurathin.

Hey remember those apology forms?

I have a gift for the Murderbot fandom

Imagine that “reply requested” is stamped ten times and that it was done in the most annoying way possible

ART gets a message straight back, labelled:“Murderbot Replies to Non-Apology from Asshole Research Transport”

Hey, I just met you, and this is crazy

But here’s my [number] comm interface, so [call me] maybe we’ll come within range of each other again…

ID: a 2 panel comic of a scene from Network Effect. In the first panel, a speech bubble in the top left corner by ART says, “I want an apology.” In the middle of the panel, Murderbot sticks two middle fingers up, with a very pissed expression on its face. The background shows the kitchen equipment in ART’s galley. In the bottom right corner, another speech bubble by ART says, “That was unnecessary.” In the second panel, Ratthi leans forward with an awkward expression on his face and says to Overse, “Anyone who thinks machine intelligences don’t have emotions needs to be in this very uncomfortable room right now.” Overse holds a mug in her hands and looks shocked.

“SecUnit—” Arada started at the same time as Ratthi said, “I don’t think—”

ART interrupted, SecUnit’s earlier statement that I “lie a lot” was untrue. I obviously cannot reveal information against the interests of my crew unless circumstances warrant.

Arada nodded. “Right. We understand. I think SecUnit is looking out for our interests—”

i’ve been wanting to draw this scene since i first read ne and finally got around to it HSDJKS

You made a mistake, Murderbot, a really bad mistake. How the hell was I supposed to know there were

You made a mistake, Murderbot, a really bad mistake. How the hell was I supposed to know there were transports sentient enough to be mean?

The Murderbot Diaries - Network Effect

1.

“Not that! Why are you sad and upset?” That was the point where even I could tell that Amena was terrified as well as furious. “There’s something you’re not telling me and it’s scaring me! I’m not a fucking hero like my second mom or a genius like everybody else in my family, I’m just ordinary, and you’re all I’ve got!” I wasn’t expecting that. It was so far from what I thought she had meant, and she was so upset, that the truth inadvertently came out. “My friend is dead!”

[ID: a drawing in cold light blue and turquoise. In the centre is Murderbot with a very exasperated expression, shouting and gesturing, blood trickling down its face. Its left gunport is deployed. In the foreground, visible from behind, is Amena, tilting her head at it. She has a fluffy afrod tied halfway back. Both of them are wearing the same kind of space suits. Three drones float around the area, and in the background Eletra is recovering in ART’s MedBay. /end ID]

2.

Instead, the diagram showed the connections, but they came from the dead human body, and formed a weblike mass. It was interwoven with the central system, then stretched out to the walls, following the old connection pathways. I bumped into the hatch, which was when I realized I had been backing up. 2.0 whispered, That’s targetControlSystem.

[ID: a drawing in bright turquoise and dark red and purple. Murderbot is standing in the entrance to the control room, the hatch of which is red-purple, and bright turquoise crystallic light is shining from inside the room and reflecting on it. Warnings and text boxes are glitching up in the feed in front of it, and in the circular room lies a human body, eyes open, overgrown with glowing white crystals that connect in strings to the roof and pillars in the room /end ID]

combat-secunit:

ART: a hyper-intelligent AI with the processing power of gods

MB: a super intelligent security bot that taught itself things outside its own programming and can hack literally everything

Them together: share a single half-functional processor and that processor only knows how to be rude

captainsupernoodle:

the ART/murderbot friendship is hysterical on every level like first of all we’re firmly in “skynet befriends a terminator” territory except the terminator has anxiety (AND IS NOT INDESTRUCTABLE, MURDERBOT, CHILL OUT), skynet is an academic with a family, there is no physical representation for ART except for the part where it’s a ship, we don’t know it’s real name for?? a while? because the pov character says “this is an asshole” and continues to refer to it as Floating Research Building (Asshole) for the entire time they’ve known each other even after murderbot discovers it’s called perihelion, ART invites murderbot to come stay at its house except it IS its own house, they first met because ART thought it would be cool and interesting to let this strange secunit on board because it could totally fry its brain if it tries anything, and then gets frustrated because murderbot needs to take a minute to get over the part where it’s stuck in a ship that can melt its brain, they fight ALL the time and yet it is Possibly one of the least complicated relationships murderbot has with anyone except maybe ratthi, ART’s first and only plan to deal with getting taken brain-hostage and save its crew is to prime the aliens to point and shoot murderbot at themselves and then has a feed equivalent of a screaming argument with murderbot because it IS, in fact, a know-it-all asshole, and murderbot is having a Lot of feelings about thinking it was floating through space in the dead husk of one of its best friends and then discovering that friend set up its crew to get taken hostage to save ART’s crew and then ART holds a planet at gunpoint for muderbot

anyway. a++ relationship.

More murderbot sketches because this series is the only thing my brain thinks about

short king ratthi comic lmao

Based off the discord saying MB considers itself short now

[pic ID: three panels. First panel is MB standing casually looking off to the side as it says “I’m short now”, second panel is ratthi looking stunned, third is the, it’s standing next to each other, MB being significantly taller while Ratthi raises an eyebrow at its drone and folds his arms]

Big OC piece sketch is finally done!

(Pic ID: from left to right: FireUnit4 (Egg’s OC) Three, Epsilon(Skits’ oc), Eso(my oc), AN-COU(my oc), Iota (skits), Upsilon(skits), Gamma and Alpha(skits), Stabby the knife wielding roomba (Flynne). FireUnit4 is running, three is standing with its back turned, Epsilon is talking to Eso who is wearing a white lab coat and distracted by Stabby’s existence, thinking “why does that cleaning bot have a knife?”, AN-COU is staring at the ceiling, no thoughts just vibes. Iota and Upsilon are sitting on the floor watching Stabby, Gamma is pointing at alpha and Alpha is goofing off)

rude bot oc based on the idea that tellus would be too polite to use its six arms to make rude gestures, so I made a rude six armed bot

(pic ID: messy concept sketch of an 11ft tall bipedal robot named Ivecx with a square LED face, a single “eye” in the center for emoting. It has a circular core in its chest. It has six arms with four fingers. It’s legs are more canine-like than human like)

been wanting to draw this for awhile. The cat based on my kitty Hiko

[picture ID: Murderbot sitting on one of ART’s bunks, smiling slightly while a very fluffy tuxedo cat tries to climb into its lap. It is reaching to pet the fluffy cat because the cat demands attention]

new oc, from the idea I had of a combat unit that’s been rogue for a lot longer than MB

Picked the name Eso because it’s serial number starts with 350

meme I did quick for the discord. Time to go to sleep now

(picture ID: variation of the bagel meme, but with MB in armor and an angry looking company symbol representing a governor module. Text is: (someone off to the side): secunit, what do you want to do? SecUnit: watch an episode of sanctuary moon. GovMod: Obey Orders. Next panel SecUnit says: watch all the episodes of sanctuary moon while the govmod yells no)

ID: a black and white fancomic of the scene in ART’s bathroom from Network Effect. Panel 1: Amena leans forward in the foreground with a curious expression and asks, “Why do you call it ART? It said its name was Perihelion.” She has dark skin, curly chin-length black hair, and is wearing a button up open over a t-shirt. In the background, Ratthi leans against a wall; he has dark skin, short wavy black hair, and is wearing a polo shirt. A shower screen can be seen behind him. Panel 2: Murderbot, leaning its head back against a wall, answers, “It’s an anagram. It stands for Asshole Research Transport.” It has short black hair and mid-tone skin, and is wearing a light-coloured shirt. Panel 3: A front-on view of Amena and Murderbot both sitting on the bathroom vanity, with the sink between them and a large mirror behind them. Amena has her legs crossed and her hands on the benchtop beside her, and says, “That’s not an anagram.” Murderbot is sitting in the corner against the wall, with its boots up on the benchtop as it hugs its jacket to its chest. “Whatever,” it replies. End ID.
ID: Panel 4: Ratthi has a hand to his chin and a thoughtful expression as he says, “Regardless, I think that while you and Perihelion know how to have relationships with humans, neither of you is quite sure how to have a relationship with each other. Panel 5: Murderbot, looking disgusted, asks, “Do you have to call it a relationship?” Panel 6: Ratthi shrugs one shoulder, looking towards Murderbot, and says, “You don’t like the word ‘friendship.’ What else is there?” Panel 7: A close-up of Murderbot’s eyes; it has mechanical irises and is looking up slightly. The text next to it says ‘archive > search > “relationship”,’ followed by an abstract array of rectangles to indicate the search process. It says aloud, “Mutual administrative assistance?” Panel 8: A low angle view from Murderbot’s perspective showing two ceiling lights, the shower screen, and the top half of Ratthi’s confused-looking face in the corner. End ID.
ID: Panel 9: A close-up of the same two ceiling lights. Panel 10: A high angle view of Murderbot and Amena sitting on the bathroom vanity. Murderbot clutches its jacket closer and yells, its expression angry, “I know what you’re doing, ART, stop trying to communicate with me!” Amena is looking up, confused. Panel 11: Ratthi, sighing.
I said, “The Transport doesn’t know what the hell it’s talking about, plus it lies a lot, and it’s mean.”

A minute, undetectable in the range of human eyesight, fluctuation in the lights told me ART had heard that.
