Pokémon crossovers are never NOT fun, so I tried my own hand at some Dangan-Poké trainers!
The original angular designs are classic, but I have to admit I love the looser styles coming out of the newest games and anime. What I didn’t anticipate is how hard it is to get those perfectly calculated ‘cute’ proportions right, pokémon artists have the ratios down to a SCIENCE. I planned to get this out around my birthday, but missed it by a week! XD
Since my main goal here was translating the danganronpa designs into bona fide pokémon trainer types; I’ll admit I didn’t think too hard about their pokémon partners. I only actually played the first few games so my expertise is kinda relegated to the original 151/251, with my knowledge of more recent generations lacking, so my bro helped me out with a few suggestions.
but for what it’s worth - here’s my logic:
KyokoInitially this one was mostly aesthetics, but Absol does have uncanny observational skills coupled with a solitary nature. MakotoLucky egg boy gets the lucky egg pokémon, but I also wanted the supposed 'pushover’ to have a powerhouse, and Tyranitar needs a lot of attention to evolve. (geeze Makoto, how come you get to have 2 pokémon?) TakaWhat can I say, it’s everyone’s fave “'legendary”’ police dog! (I’ll come clean, I totally cribbed this from Chasml after reading 'My Real Test’; I cannot imagine Taka without an Arcanine) MondoMy bro calls Pangoro 'delinquent bear’ so it fits Mondo well, but the idea Pancham refuses to evolve cos he knows Mondo loves the cute pre-evolutions is hilarious to me. SayakaPrimarina is an all singing, all dancing diva, just like the idol herself. LeonZebstrika …zebSTRIKA …zebSTRIKA … STRIKE like in BASEBALL GEDDIT??? But also - ill tempered, physically talented with a punky aesthetic? Sounds like Leon. Celeste A stocky, grey, spoiled feline? That’s not Purugly, that’s Grand Bois Chéri Ludenberg HifumiWhen I saw the similarities between Blissey and Princess Piggles I couldn’t unseeit. HinaCute, bubbly and an excellent swimmer? Describes Marill to a T. Sakura Whilst she definitely has fighter type pokémon on her team - Alolan Ninetales’ style, grace and calm demeanour just reminded me of Sakura. TokoAlthough insect/bug types would suit her well; I think a lot of them are still too 'cute’ - 'unpleasant’ pokémon like Grimer or Trubbish mirror her extreme self-image issues. Byakuya I know Ditto suits TWOgami better, but a bit of meta here - a foreign language Ditto is the best way to breed Shinys which seems right up Byakuya’s alley; with the obligatory 'Rich Guy Persian’ for good measure. ChihiroWhat self-respecting computer whizz wouldn’t dream of a constant portable power supply? Helps that Charjabug is also adorable. HiroUnpredictably psychic, undefinable intelligence and contentious usefulness, am I talking about Hiro or the Psyduck? JunkoGothorita is called both “the Manipulate pokémon” and “The Witch of Punishment” in its pokédex entries … (plus, clearly a fashion icon to boot) MukuroPawniard will follow a Bisharp’s orders with no mind to its own wellbeing, a perfect pawnif you will.
(and my favourite still continues to be this stupid fat rat, so there’s no accounting for taste)

This is true indeed! Toko is definitely guilty of projecting. Tho, like most pokemon Grimer’s pokedex entries are WILD = apparently it’s so toxic it leaves the ground permanently barren where-ever it touches. mad.

AH yes! Our firey feline luchador! With a very appropraite name- I’ll admit I don’t remember if I used to nickname my pokemon or not; I was definitely the kid who always named the protag 'Ash’ tho, as I’d never played an RPG so didn’t understand the protag was me and not just the character I saw from the cartoon.

:) :) Thanks so much! The clothing styles in pokemon are really iconic, but they don’t usually include a lot of school uniforms so I wanted to re-design them into something that suited better; it was a lot of fun!
100% Taka’s is based on those old school Rocket uniforms! I couldn’t NOT give him a classic James crop-top XD. You know he was constantly confused with a Team Rocket Grunt, doing absolutely no favours for his reputation
@authordgasterasked: I think it’s kinda sweet that you like Raticate. It’s makes me happy that even a Pokémon as overlooked as that is loved by someone.
8 year old me caught a rattata and really decided that it was ride or die. No matter what, every single pokemon is someone’s fave, and that’s quite a comforting thought :)

ooooo! So glad you liked! The events of pokémon arceus are pretty wide spread but there are still so many unknown variables surrounding it, that makes it so ripe for poking at the anticipation of what folk are expecting, you can really just let their imaginations work against them! Plus it’s a perfect excuse for me to just wildly project my own experiences on these delightful muppet men. XD

[pic] oooooh! I can see them being a source of mistrust, not true antags of course, but just attracting suspicion as the only two people who have a solid anchor to rely on in the killing game. In all honesty I could see them both surviving if only because it’d fit that classic dangan red herring thing where they introduce a potentially really interesting development then juuuust sidestep it. On the other hand, if one of them dies I can’t see the other surviving. If they were victims their identities might be swapped to confuse the timeline so the blackened has an alibi based on which twin died first. If one of them became the blackened, It might be in the case of trying to double bluff monokuma in a ‘who’s the REAL blackened?’ twist but it’d probably just end in monokuma axing them both, regardless that one was actually innocent.
@the-chibi-devil This is a neat idea! Do you have a rationale behind both of them holding the same title at the same time, or is it just for fun?
I’ll be honest I’ve not got a real rationale, it was just for fun! I thought of giving one of them an animal themed talent in reference to their passion for pokémon battles but … uhhhh there’s not really a nice real world equivalent for that? I mean dog shows maybe? But Gundham already has the market cornered on animal husbandry.
Tho, there’s not actually a hard and fast rule that there can only be one ultimate in any given field …

All the seams are attached with poppers or velcro so it detaches at the seams if it gets snagged on something. Caution tho’ if you’re googling demonstrations of tearaway clothing, you’re liable to come across some potentially racy videos.

a coupla titbits;
*The danger of going through red signals is so drilled into your head it’s very common for trainees to have stress dreams about it to the point you get training about having those types of dreams.
*People who live along the railway lines seem to be completely oblivious to the fact that I can see through all their windows.
* You end up developing behaviour patterns to keep your driving safe; for example a common one is pointing at signals and calling out what they’re showing. When I’m running an empty service I sing at the top of my voice to remind myself not to open my doors at stations I’m not supposed to.
1) Can most trains go backwards if they’ve stopped and there’s an obstacle ahead?
2) If the obstacle is an active threat, what is the best protocol for passenger safety?
3) Do trains constantly keep in touch with a central monitoring authority, like how planes are informed of incoming traffic and storms with radio tower control centers?
4) If yes to the above, how are conditions on the tracks monitored in real time?
Yes I’m asking because of submas brainrot but I have An Idea and you seem like the best person to ask for clarifying details about trains lol
Train answers!
1) Surprisingly yes, trains can reverse! BUT it’s not used in that scenario, it’s used to uncouple trains or if there’s a major control malfunction. There are driver’s cabs on either end of the train so If you come across an obstruction, you walk though the train and drive from the other end (but there are very specific rules for doing this, the preferred action if there’s no active danger is for you to just sit there and wait)
2) If an obstruction is an active threat there’s no one protocol, there are instructions and rules for all sorts of specific scenarios, but the standard is to make an emergency call to the signaller so that the situation can be reported and the train taken out of danger in the safest manner, which might be changing ends and driving the train away from the threat.
3) We drive in radio silence; you’re only contacted if there’s a problem, so a good shift is you don’t talk to anyone the whole time XD It’s kinda operated on a ‘need to know’ basis so unless it directly effects your train the signaller won’t waste time informing you.
4) the signaller has a simplified electronic map of the area they control of all the signals and the train’s approximate location via electronic tags on the tracks and the radio’s signal. They have no visuals so it’s up to drivers to report any problems on the tracks and the signaller can then direct trains or inform them as necessary.
ymmv of course; I can only speak from where I’m at, hope that clears a couple things up :)
